Wrote in today's newsletter that Gleyber Torres' QO decision could impact Kevin McGonigle's chances of making Detroit's Opening Day roster.

Torres accepted the QO, per multiple reports, so would expect McGonigle to see more time at SS and 3B rather than 2B in the spring.

Former Tigers hitting coach Keith Beauregard stays in the AL Central and gets a promotion under new Twins manager Derek Shelton.

The Twins are hiring Keith Beauregard as their head hitting coach. He spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Tigers.

Trevor Amicone and Rayden Sierra are returning as the assistant hitting coaches.

Tarik Skubal finished 5th in AL MVP voting, including one 3rd-place vote. Riley Greene received a 9th- and 10th-place vote.

Hall of Famer Hal Newhouser would have been on this list, but the Cy Young award hadn't yet been created when Newhouser won back-to-back AL MVP awards in 1944 and '45.

Tarik Skubal wasn't a unanimous AL Cy Young winner, but he got 26 of 30 first-place votes from members of the BBWAA. Garrett Crochet got the other 4.

Tarik Skubal is a back-to-back AL Cy Young winner. He's the first repeat winner in AL since Pedro Martinez in 1999 and 2000.

Reese Olson, who last pitched on July 24 before suffering a shoulder strain, is completing rehab daily, according to today's Tigers medical update. Others like Beau Brieske, Jason Foley, Sean Guenther and Ty Madden, are listed on throwing progressions or cleared for normal offseason activity.

Anthony Iapoce did a great job as Tigers 1B coach the last two seasons, but he is a hitting coach at heart. Happy to see him get a chance to do that again with Astros.

Much like Scott Harris a few weeks ago, Tigers general manager Jeff Greenberg sidestepped questions about trading or extending Tarik Skubal when asked by reporters Wednesday at MLB's GM Meetings.

Tigers have claimed RHP Dugan Darnell off waivers from Pittsburgh. The Northville native, Adrian College and USPBL product made his MLB debut with Rockies this season.
