Not digested full report but the recs from the Home Affairs Committee on the Govts. Earned Settlement Proposals basically say...what a mess, slow down, think about wider impacts before you try to implement a more complicated system you can't administer.

V useful thread on Mahmood’s current changes to asylum support and refugee status (NB more to come, it seems)
The Labour leadership still don’t understand that immigration *does* matter to people other than immigrants. Their viciousness matters to anyone who cares about humanity. *AND* lots of us have friends, family, colleagues etc who are immigrants.
A reminder of what some of these asylum policies are:
- giving refugees only 2.5 years of leave, meaning the Home Office has to review their status every 30 months
- quadrupling the time to settlement from 5 years to 20 years
- no automatic way to be reunited with close family members
As Wales receives millions of pounds of government money to be used as a base for military development, the companies that benefit are only interested in their profit #NotInOurName
📢"It’s like you have to choose between settlement and surviving."
Essential reading from @ramfel.bsky.social exposing how families are being punished simply for accessing the support they were legally entitled to.

The conversation about housing is all wrong.
For decades, governments haven’t built enough social homes. People are struggling. Yet refugees get blamed.
Our new video flips the narrative and focuses on the real issue.
Watch it. Share it. Let’s change the conversation.
Incredible that Labour have the nerve to criticise Reform’s immigration plans given their own efforts to make permanent residence impossible for many people for decades, or at all

They are: Air France, Titan Airways, AlbaStar Airlines & Corenden Airlines.
We call on them to end their complicity, now.

Welfare not warfare
Calling for Ratcliffe to apologise is all well and good. But Starmer needs to look at some of his own rhetoric:
'inward migration exploded'
'a one-nation experiment in open borders'
'incalculable damage'
'economy distorted'
This sets the tone.

NEW from @tbij.bsky.social:
The government has rejected calls by its OWN independent Migration Advisory Committee for visa reforms to protect migrant farm workers from exploitation
Labour seems wedded to a model of immigration based on creating a subclass of exploited worker.
It's sick.
The other day Manchester United’s co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said the UK had been "colonised by immigrants"….today there’s this billboard outside of Old Trafford 🔥….way to go Manchester 💪!
Migration is not colonisation — it’s contribution. Our CEO, Sabir Zazai, challenges harmful myths and calls for compassionate conversations about migration.
It’s time to reject toxic narratives and recognise the value of those who make Scotland home.

Imagine being presented with these accounts of stark unfairness and insecurity caused by the earned settlement plans and your response being ‘It is a privilege not a right to settle in the UK and it must be earned’ - the Home Secretary needs to go www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Reality of Home Secretary's proposals are that migrants will be forced to "prove themselves" in ways no-one else would accept, while being treated as second class and magic money trees.
"Mandatory volunteering" goes against the very principle of volunteering.
www.infomigrants.net/en/post/6976...
"Volunteering is, by definition, freely given. Tying it to settlement undermines its spirit, distorts its purpose, and risks damaging public trust."
The government’s ill-considered plans on ‘earned settlement’ suffer a predictable collision with reality.
“Yet the “revolving door” between government and business, and the value of the knowledge and contacts that political leaders possess, is central to the operations of power.”
“Beyond the misogyny and moral squalor, the files also provide a portrait of how power works to sustain itself.“ My @theobserveruk.bsky.social column: observer.co.uk/news/columni...
A decade ago, a random Australian hack labeled my nephew a terrorist. Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary (presented in numerous legal proceedings up to and including the Supreme Court in two different countries), the lie was allowed to take hold and to spread.
Refugees are people the Government believes would face persecution in their home countries. Yet they plan to increase the time it takes to get settled status from 5 years to 10 years, with many having to wait 20 to 30 years.

The Government's plans to make people wait decades for settlement will do huge damage to our communities.
Every local authority that values a diverse, cohesive community should stand against them.
