They attacked Iran because it was too dangerous to leave alone, but they didn’t think they would defend themselves? If Iran had a weak military, they wouldn’t be dangerous.

UPDATE: Had a nice chat with him. The workbook is preparation for some civil service exams he's taken. The random laughter is how he deals with stress! He said there's nothing funny in the workbooks, it's just how he is.

This war feels like someone looked at Iraq and Afghanistan and went “no, those wars were too well planned and executed”

Report from the reference desk:
A student sits alone at a table, pencil in hand, bent over what appears to be a course workbook. He is laughing his head off. I can't IMAGINE what kind of workbook it is! I want to take whatever class he's taking. #LibraryLife

I suppose there's a certain irony in my apparent inability to concentrate on reading this chapter about gifted children and motivation.

Don’t know how common it is but I keep seeing stories of international adoptees facing immigration action b/c of paperwork errors by adoptive parents or agencies from when they were brought to the U.S. and it really shows how hard the bureaucracy of migration is to navigate even for people from here

The English word "shark" was two different meanings: a predatory cartilaginous fish and a predatory scoundrel. We sometimes understand the predatory scoundrel to be by metaphor from the predatory fish, but evidence suggests these two meanings have entirely separate origins—German … and Maya??

Defense secretary openly states that a pro-Trump billionaire taking over a news network (following regulatory help from the administration) will result in coverage more favorable for the administration.

so, next time they are in power, i think democrats should ask themselves real serious questions about whether they want to continue considering bids and accepting contracts from an organization that has made eradicating half the country an explicit political goal

It was a bad idea to fire all the experts. Or anyone who had ever read a history book from cover to cover. Or anyone with any critical thinking skills. Or anyone with an attention span longer than a tweet.

The killing of schoolchildren should shock our conscience and cause us to recoil in horror.

A nation whose leaders can so easily shrug off the death of children, no matter the cause, is in need of moral repair.

There must be accountability and lessons learned from this tragedy. And we must never forget that Iranian children, too, are children of God.

Rule:
Anyone who has ever been the subject of a “Welcome to the Resistance!” tweet is guilty until proven innocent for 10 years. Don’t give them money, buy their book, or listen to their podcast, and for the love of all that’s holy, DON’T VOTE FOR THEM FOR ANY POSITION! (Looking at you, Conway.)

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 URGENT ACTION ON BOOK BAN LEGISLATION FOR IDAHO. 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

Please read the full thread.

Legislators have proposed yet another bill that would undermine the purpose of libraries statewide, and it would not only eschew the Miller Test, it'd create TWO CLASSES of access.

Yet more unacceptable targeting of trans people from this admin, weaponizing their shock troops against trans people just as they have done against communities of color and people who don't bow down to 'Dear Leader'

“The performance of certainty seemed to be at the root of so much grief. Everyone in America seemed to be afraid and hurting and angry, starving for a fight they could win. And more than that even, they seemed certain their natural state was to be happy, con-tented, and rich. The genesis of everyone's pain had to be external, such was their certainty. And so legislators legislated, building border walls, barring citizens of there from entering here. "The pain we feel comes from them, not ourselves," said the banners, and people cheered, certain of all the certainty. But the next day they'd wake up and find that what had hurt in them still hurt.”

A central tenet of MAGA is that Jews aren't people, they're tools, and accordingly their value derives entirely from the utility they provide MAGA.

#Journalists there’s a story bigger than #SantaFe here. Santa Fe is the capital of #NewMexico, a state critical to stopping Republican Fascism. Yet the City is unconstitutionally burdening mass protest of Trump and his ilk.
