Remember guys, you can’t afford a gas rig, or a coal mine, or a nuclear power station, but you can afford to put some cheap solar panels on your roof.

That’s why the fossil fuel industry has spent billions trying to kill renewable energy.

The dealer needs to keep you addicted.

Bristol Uni support staff return to picket line Striking staff members are calling for a pay rise “that helps them keep up with the real cost of living"

Very pleased to see coverage in @bristol247.bsky.social of the University of Bristol @unison.org.uk staff strike for fair pay and working conditions. Great turnout by staff members and some rousing speeches! Thanks as well to everyone who showed up in solidarity 💪💥

LET'S NOT PLAY FRISBEE WITH THAT POET ANYMORE.

[This is a comic strip, with a poem laid over it. On each panel a new line of the poem is written. The scene is a park, in the summer. A man in a trenchcoat - implicitly Philip Larkin - stands folorn, motionless, looking at people throwing a frisbee. It becomes apparent as the comic progresses that they are trying to play frisbee with him. He stand stock still for the whole comic, watching the frisbee as, panel by panel it soars closer and closer to him].

After contemplating the approaching frisbee for two silent panels, Philip begins his thoughts:

Unloosed, unheralded,
You soar toward me
Across the dying afternoon.

bright disc of childhood,
Long since thrown wide
Of Youth's green imaginings,

Your slow declining arc
Figures a sky-written truth:
We will all succumb, and soon

To earth's hard oblivion.

[The frisbee hits Philip on the head with a resounding DONK. He falls backwards, to the ground.

[Ends]

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

Seems like a no-brainer to me.
"Reaching net zero would cost about £4bn a year, the CCC found, or close to £100bn by 2050, which was roughly equivalent to the energy-related costs of the fossil fuel shocks that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."

My gym recommendation is that you leave 1-2 weeks between sessions so that you never make any progress and stay humble

Come say hi during your lunch break if you’re nearby. Or beep your car horn / ding your bell if you’re passing through.

UoB offers a staggering number of fixed-term-only roles (i.e. not permanent). These fragile job circumstances allow the UoB to make redundancies without ever having to spend any of that pesky money or time on people, many of whom have literally spent years in salary precarity. (4/5)

Many colleagues struggle to pay mortgages and rents and eventually have to leave jobs they love and are very good at.

Many more colleagues are locked into fixed-term contracts, which UoB will extend and extend and extend until, one day, they don’t. (3/5)

UoB staff haven’t had a pay increase that matches inflation since 2009. So every year, food and bills go up but our wages practically stagnate, meaning that we receive an effective pay CUT. (2/5)

UoB staff on strike round 2: 10th and 11th March 2026 Quote from Carla Denyer:

"Solidarity with Unison workers at the University of Bristol, who are striking against a 3.4% real terms pay cut. Since 2009, higher education pay has lost around 28% of its value. Meanwhile, low-paid workers have borne the brunt of the crisis in higher education funding.

This strike is important for Bristol. University of Bristol workers make up a significant proportion of the city’s workforce – at 4.8%. I also have a personal connection to this issue – many of my friends either currently work in universities, or have left, due to unmanageable working conditions. Workloads can’t keep increasing while wages are dropping.

I’m proud to have supported striking University of Bristol workers since I was a local councillor, and to have joined them on picket lines across the years. I echo their demands: it's time for University workers to be paid fairly."

Round 2 of the University of Bristol @unison.org.uk staff strike. We’ll be at the pickets on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th March.

I’ll be there for two reasons: Pay and Redundancies. (1/5)

America will never be forgiven for inflicting Trump on the world.
I'm not talking about individual Americans who oppose Trump. I couldn't feel sorrier for them. But America as a polity and a geopolitical entity basically stuck a gun in its own mouth the moment it gave this man power.

Chelsea Green is one of the funniest and most talented wrestlers we’ve ever seen. A treasure. We must protect her.
