04.02.2026 19:54 β π 3 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0See Ben's thread. The sense that one could imagine having under a normal governmentβthat enforcement will be in the spirit of genuine accessibility and disability justiceβis now replaced by the nagging feeling that this will just be a weapon with which to attack universities at their discretion
04.02.2026 21:54 β π 13 π 6 π¬ 2 π 0Once again asking people not to repost text blobs without alt text and especially not to repost text blobs of Twitter conversations between unlikeable famous people without alt text.
I have some people's names word muted, and that's very intentional.
The house is constructed near a forgotten spring. It is afflicted by brass instruments. It is peculiarly gifted.

04.02.2026 20:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google.
My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

Emerald Peacock Butterfly (Papilio palinurus), seen at the greenhouse of the botanical garden today. The wings are dark green to black on the upper side. A broad, green fluorescent band runs across both wings. The rear edge of the hind wings is wavy and double-lined with black.

04.02.2026 18:45 β π 13 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Ugh, no. Go after the guy for what he does, says, stands for, not his appearance. Appearance tells us nothing about a person, appearance has nothing to do with morals or ethics of anything else.
04.02.2026 18:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0please include alt text for images!
04.02.2026 18:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When you mock someone for their appearance and/or abilitiesβwhether they're fat, have limb difference, don't have "conventional" facial symmetry or whateverβall it does is shows that YOU are ableist or bigoted. Attack people's actions, policies, viewpoints! Not bodies.
This is not hard.
also, I don't know if you've seen Monster Meat, My Lady? It's like human versions of Fel in a Bridgerton-like world and is also super OTT and funny.
04.02.2026 18:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My other current fav is a slice of life anime called With You and the Rain, in which a sentient tanuki adopts a shy (possibly autistic-coded) writer. Very little happens, but it is lovely and cozy and sweet, and the tanuki is hilarious. It's just 1 season so far, but perfect for de-stressing.
04.02.2026 18:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hope there's another season coming.
04.02.2026 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love Campfire Cooking.... my spouse describes it as "a boy and his dog eat things" and it is truly charming and very funny.
04.02.2026 17:49 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1Sympathy. I've worked on and advocated for access for ISs for years now, all the way back to my days with the Natl Coalition for ISs (which is basically useless), but we need a paradigm change with the scholarly societies at the helm.
04.02.2026 17:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Libretto is about a survivor of IPV helping others escape from the same situation. Set in Scotland, possibly during the Clearances. Some mythology/folklore worked in.

04.02.2026 13:38 β π 147 π 35 π¬ 3 π 0Opera libretto plotting and laundry today. The dogs are snoozing in the sun.
04.02.2026 17:17 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Finished E. H. Lupton's Dionysus in Wisconsin last night and loved the world-building and great characters. Can't wait to read the next in the series!
04.02.2026 17:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given the WaPo disaster, Iβm re-posting my starter pack of indie journalistsβit probably needs an update so give me a shout to add folks.

Color image of four women in an office/library/research setting. Behind them are file cabinets and book shelves. To the right is a Christmas tree. The women are posed around the desk: A woman (Katharine Hepburn) is at center, behind the desk and answering the phone. At the right, a woman (Joan Blondell) in a festive black dress is seen in profile and is laughing. At the left, wearing a patterned black dress with white collar and holding a paper cup, is a young woman (Sue Randall). At bottom right, in a light purple dress, is a seated woman (Dina Merrill), also holding a white paper cup. Champagne bottles sit on the desk.
We need an updated "Desk Set" (1957) in which women fact-checkers beat the AI bros. And drink buckets of champagne.
04.02.2026 14:48 β π 74 π 20 π¬ 3 π 1We have enough evidence for UBI in general that this policy should be a given. But the difference is, to understand UBI works is to believe that people are fundamentally good. And a big chunk of society is built around the belief, *must maintain the belief* that people are fundamentally bad.

I am going to be running an in-person day of workshops on Wuthering Heights adaptations at the Bronte Parsonage in March!
