If they are skilled their chick will survive winter 25/26 and get a huge headstart, with plenty of time to learn the skills needed to survive winter 26/27

Don't worry there's whole stores full of Heron curtains and bed covers that are Cranes too. It's a common mistake. 😅

Looking good n healthy. Dark beak, lores look like have bit of colour.

@everyheron.bsky.social those nice people at Tiggywinkles helped out a poor Heron in trouble. Human fishers need to be much more mindful of those who have a beakspear & not a metal hook 🎣

I watched this Grey Heron not move for over 15 mins in pouring rain. There was a bridge to shelter under just out of shot which it showed no interest in bsky.app/profile/ever...

In the past in places like Ireland, Grey Heron earned names like Molly of the Bog as a result of scenes like this. A distant, misty, hunched, cloaked person working the field. 💙
