The stately technique is useful for crossing deep water where there is nowhere to fly and land. It surprises the fish who are taught that swimming Herons are a myth!

Once adult they become a complex blue purple, competing & arguing with the other Egrets that previously unknowingly hosted them in their flock 2/2

Little Blue Heron are born white allowing them to mingle within flocks of other Egrets for food and protection. Then in their second year they slowly start to turn all blue. Each journey is unique. π€π 1/2 π§΅

You make an excellent point. So many Heron skills are learned through experience, so I feel like saying the youngster needs to work much harder for its food than its wiser elders. Every meal smaller, more misses, less patience
