Some honest, non-trolling advice for JD Vance: you’re never going to be Trump. History shows playing second fiddle to a narcissist never ends well—just ask Mike Pence.
Joy Reid doesn’t need a gratitude lecture from a man who soldout his own book & integrity to chase Trump & Peter Thiel’s approval.

BREAKING: Illinois Governor JB Pritzker threatens to withdraw from the National Governors Association if the organization doesn't speak out against Trump's use of the National Guard in U.S. cities.

Watch Gov. Pritzker discuss with Rachel Maddow:

Exactly correct. He's trying to create the theater that makes it seem like he's correct to declare war on half of America by the other half.

He's trying to start a civil war.

Not too long ago, it would’ve been pretty dramatic for an incumbent American president to refer to his opponents as “the party of Hate, Evil, and Satan.”

But as people grow accustomed to madness, it’s now barely a one-day story.

“We are home now. We marched from the park to ICE, very peaceful crowd. We were standing around ICE pushed us down, sprayed us with chemical and I was hit in the head with a projectile. This was so unprovoked. People have to know that the Feds are attacking people with NO provocation whatsoever.”

I don't think most people are picking up what's happening. He's trying to create a war between states by deploying red state National Guard to blue states.

He's trying to start a civil war with Americans killing other Americans. All under the pretense of "making people feel safer."

I have to imagine Trump needs him to sign off on something legally dubious. Maybe it has to do with the new investigation into Bolton, or maybe a probe into the lie about Obama wiretapping the Trump campaign. Or maybe the drug boats. Who knows. But I’ll be watching. END/

The CNN anchor did not explain how he verified that it was the president — not any of his aides — who authored the written responses to his questions.

He also did not explain whether he’d made any effort to speak with the president by phone, something that has become commonplace for reporters covering the second Trump administration because Trump has maintained use of his personal mobile phone since returning to the presidency and frequently uses it to contact reporters directly.

The president’s purported text message exchange with Tapper was also unusual because Trump is not known to be a frequent user of his phone’s text message capacity.

He also famously eschews email and other written forms of communication and during his first term he openly complained when attorneys working for his administration took notes during meetings.

Trump’s unconventional use of text-based communications to purportedly respond to Tapper comes as questions continue to swirl about the state of his health

Jake Tapper did a whole interview with Trump by text message? Which means he can't actually confirm it was him. And now everyone's asking even more than before very reasonable questions about the wannabe dictator's health.

That's the same fucking guy.

If you want to know more about these tactics, watch the documentary Merchants of Doubt. This tactic isn't new, the GOP has been doing it for decades.

Always fun to catch them, though.

We can’t out-Republican Republicans, nor should we want to.

Democrats need to say what they believe — and actually believe in something.

No one should be suprised by the Supreme Court rejecting Ghislane Maxwell's appeal.

She is solely under Trump's control and playing ball.

It's why Trump’s thug regime urged the high court to stay out of the case.

They need her to lie for Trump in exchange for a pardon.

Child rape quid pro quo.

This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power by the President of the United States.

I think there is an inability among a lot of people to distinguish in the moment between a *leader* who is authoritarian and a *state* that is

But these are two very separate things and one does not strictly follow the other

Agreed, there's a level of passivity that seems really dangerous among Americans.

I'm not advocating violence, rather, keep attacking Trump's "strengths". They're all imaginary, all fraudulent. That just needs to be exposed in an irrefutable way and the cult will break. Just like McCarthy.

I agree with Josh but with one caveat: Words can demoralize people. I have political science-y disagreements with people who say "America is now fascist," but more to the point, I don't want people to internalize the idea that it's all done and dusted. Trump is far weaker than may people realize.
