Six albums (and musical artists) I listened to an awful lot when I was in art school the first time around: The Staple Singers, Thelonious Monk, Nick Drake, Philip Glass, Peter Gabriel’s Passion Sources, and Arvo Pärt.

My dad posted this one at the time. I didn’t know Bob well, but met him a few times over the past 30 years.

Community art project at this past Saturday’s Make Music Wheaton fest. We invited those gathered to add their own hopes and frustrations as graffiti to prepared panels. We provided paints and stencils. Love how baby Jesus emerges from the cacophony of marks. #graffiti #salaam #peace #shalom

Self portrait at 51. It was a great day with shrimp newburg and shoofly pie made by Susan and Cora, fresh proteas and eucalyptus for the table, family collaborative poetry writing, stumbling through some Goldberg variations, improvising with Jesse on euphonium, and other good surprises.

Walter Salles' new film "I'm Still Here" is a profoundly beautiful thing. I think his best since Central Station. Starring Fernanda Torres and her real life mother Fernanda Montenegro (who plays the same character late in life), I highly recommend it.

The final composition lost a lot of the energy of the sketches, but introduced some different design and compositional thinking.

My students and I took some dots for a walk (with thanks to Paul Klee). Here is my contour line drawing of the room at the end of the first 30 minutes. We'll add more tomorrow as we record at least 180º of the room. #drawing

Silkscreen Project: Where Are You From? Design and print a 2-color postcard that tells us something about you and what home means to you. This was my demonstration piece. Each student will receive a postcard from everyone in the class. #silkscreen
