For Whitefolk, this is the first time many have felt this politically hopeless.

Hope is White intergenerational privilege—hopelessness is Black intergenerational trauma.

White hopelessness is cyclical, ours is structural. What they see as deviation, we know as its norm.

It's offensive hearing Whitefolk (esp. those in power) say "this isn't America" because the rest of us know this as distinctly American.

They're mourning America out of for the sake of how Trump's America makes them look/feel rather than for injustice—but that denial is catching up with reality.

White privilege is finding comfort in the illusion of an imagined American morality that buffers Whitefolk from political hopelessness.

Trump didn't break the system—at least to the degree White liberals panic over—he broke this illusion of a "good" America. What they mourn, we have inhabited.
