How did the saying go? Hidden something, looming dragon?
I do wonder what's hiding under there~

01.03.2026 00:54 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i guess what matters most in this situation is which has the bigger community support, so if CachyOS has a larger support base than Nobara then I guess I'll spring for that distro instead
28.02.2026 23:15 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0tomorrow i nuke windows and install linux on my daily pc, and right now I'm leaning towards installing nobara, unless someone gives me a reeeeally good reason to install cachyos instead.

28.02.2026 22:41 β π 1663 π 355 π¬ 47 π 1you will go hundreds of snaps watching forward passes and runs and returns and whatever and never see a single lateral and then one guy will do it and its like some dormant programming is activated and everyone remembers theyre playing rugby's cousin sport and decide they wanna play that instead
28.02.2026 22:23 β π 27 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0the funniest phenomenon in north american sports is when an american football player desperately pitches the ball to a nearby teammate as theyre getting tackled, and suddenly everyone on the field remembers 'oh shit laterals are a thing' and the ball will get pitched like six more times on the play
28.02.2026 22:20 β π 50 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0right now the decision is mostly gravitating between Nobara, CachyOS, and Bazzite, with maybe a lil consideration for a few others

I have rent and bills due pretty imminently so I'm reposting this to also include a qr code to my p-pal link as well because some folks told me in dms that they'd be willing to help out that way since they didnt have cash/app.
please remember not to leave any comments if there's any field for such
i also wanna be a chao :)

not a FULL solution, but they've got a page for EAC on the LVRA wiki lvra.gitlab.io/docs/vrchat/...
the VRChat devs have explicitly said they're cool with people trying to run the app on Linux and that EAC SHOULDNT go after you, but theres still occasional reports here and there
there might be useful info in here about them: lvra.gitlab.io
i havent have time to do more than very briefly skim it due to being busy, but it looks like it's got a lot of information about the current functional state of VR on Linux
one thing that made me step away from it back in the day was how few games either worked under something like Wine, or worked /well/
fast forward to today and ProtonDB tells me that like 95%+ of my Steam library is at /least/ Gold rated under Proton, if not Platinum or just outright native on Linux
second time I've seen a CachyOS endorsement today
i've been considering Mint, Pop_OS, a friend introduced me to Nobara which seems slick, I'm hearing good things bout CachyOS and hell at one point I was considering SteamOS
my knowledge of distros is very baby
Hrmmmm
I'll just see what I can get from the current state of things, I suppose
yeah the privacy invasion is fucking insane, i have a HUGE paranoia of information-grabbing so the direction windows has been going in for a few years now is awful
27.02.2026 19:33 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the only thing im a wee bit worried about is that Clip Studio Paint is kinda notoriously difficult to get working properly on a Linux install, but i've seen plenty of evidence that it'd doable with some elbow grease (and maybe a bottle)
27.02.2026 19:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0now i've got an (undervolted) 14700kf and a 5070 so i /might/ be ok, but having a modern nvidia card on linux is another can of worms possibly lol
27.02.2026 19:30 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the big problem i understand with SteamVR on Linux is that motion smoothing doesn't work, and if your setup/hardware isnt good enough to run it smoothly without it, it becomes a motion sickness nightmare

the worst case scenario is i dualboot windows specifically JUST for VRChat stuff, which is ridiculous but, hey, whatevers necessary
but Ive been getting advice from a friend that feels pretty promising and theres also this lvra.gitlab.io
last time i had a linux system installed on a pc i owned, it was having like Ubuntu 8 installed on a hand-down work laptop from my dad back in like 2008 so it's been
