ProtonDB gives you a rundown of what games on Steam's catalog run under Proton and how well, you can even give it your Steam account url and itll curate a list of just the games you own
and theres AreWeAntiCheatYet for seeing what games with anti-cheat do and dont run on Linux
gaming on linux is a LOT better than it was a decade ago, thanks to stuff like the Vulkan API and Valve's Proton compatability layer. There are still some problems tho, like nvidia GPUs being a little worse (driver reasons) and some games with kernel-level anti cheat being blocked from running
Oh hey there! Sorry I almost squashed you....unless π
your best place to start would be ProtonDB
yeee I heard that one of the reported fixes with the beta 595 driver is that MH Wilds doesn't have vertex explosions everywhere now.
I've been a little antsy about installing a beta driver on my daily driver but maybe I should give it a shot.
i guess i gotta memorize the standard library of launch options for steam games on linux
oh, as someone who's about to start learning more about unity and udon to start building some vrc worlds, that's a little disheartening to hear
i was late posting about it, but i've found the FOSS VR setup process to be a fucking nightmare, and its just way too easy to give up in the middle of it and be like "yeah i can just boot into windows where this ecosystem just, works,"
feels like the kind of thing i'd need to set a day aside for
My hope is that the upcoming Steam Frame results in Valve making the SteamVR Linux experience be Not Shit, since its standalone mode will almost definitely be running SteamOS.
Hopefully sooner than later, because FOSS VR has been a fucking nightmare to try setting up.
SteamVR's big problem right now on Linux is that reprojection (the motion smoothing tech that makes you not want to throw up when your FPS is below the headset's target) is broken, so using it does nnnnnot feel good. Shame because VRChat itself runs butter smooth on CachyOS with Proton.
The SINGULAR reason I still have a Windows partition (that I look at, pleadingly, begging it not to update and nuke my boot manager) is for SteamVR and VRChat.
The state of VR on Linux is...it exists. But it's funky.
SteamVR on Linux is buggy and nausea-inducing.
FOSS VR is a pain to setup.
do i know what I'm talking about? barely.
part of the reason I wanted to install a linux distro is because my enthusiasm for developing more intricate knowledge about computer systems stopped years back, and I wanted an environment that'd encourage me to start learning again.
Civ 6's case is funny because proton-cachyos doesn't recognize my GPU and uses OpenGL to translate DX12 calls and it's just terrible. Game was crashing running the benchmarks.
proton-ge recognizes it fine and properly uses VKD3D. During the benchmarks I was hitting like 300 FPS on max settings.
tested some DX12 games on cachyOS with both proton-cachyos and ge-proton and i think its kinda fascinating the per-game results you can get. Satisfactory has no perceptible difference, Clair Obscur ran well on both but notably better with the cOS branch, whereas Civ 6 ran HORRIBLY on the cOS branch.
the american national baseball team saw the unlikeable bullshit the mens hockey team was pulling and said nah we can be more insufferable and stupid

yuuuuup i got a 5070 and anytime my primary display shuts off theres a very high chance it wont come back without a reboot
strangely, tho, my xp pen display tablet is just fine
it's very funny how our cachyos experiences are so similar that we're even dealing with the exact same display bug
do you have an nvidia gpu by any chance
i think the reason that my affinity for birds is growing really fast lately is because at some point i realized avians are just the sequel to scalies
i think i need to start buying zinc tablets regularly
ohhh man damn you for reminding me how black knight is like the most genuine and emotional piece of sonic team media haha
(i wish it played a bit better)
i talk about my trio of sonic husbands being Big Vector and Zavok and it's *genuinely* criminal how much I sleep on Storm
if i ever make a Sonic OC they're gonna be a bird because either i make an awesome looking guy or i become the first person ever in history to design a bad looking Sonic bird
hopefully the Rogues coming back for Crossworlds put more eyes on them and more fan demand for a revival or successor to Riders somehow
i think Riders is still valued as one of the more memorable spin-offs of the Sonic franchise, even if the games had some middling reception back in the day
(it was that era around Shadow and 06's releases, but also cuz the games themselves are, like, merely just kinda ok as actual racing games)
im in the same boat, the Cashell version has the more unique and interesting sound, but i think the lyrics deserve a better vocal performance, and Gioeli *always* sounds like hes channeling the energy of a sun into those incredibly hammy but so entertainingly powerful performances of his
