I'd give it the first 2.5 - 3 weeks of January. Carnival atmosphere. Double Headers etc. Capitalise on school holiday audiences but don't outstay the welcome.

Shame about the massive chunk of prime summer time locked into the BBL.

I'm not opposed to the BBL but I do think that it goes for too long and is given too much prominence.

Test Squad announced. Only one selection that puzzles me. Also has me wondering what a true second 11 would look like if picked based on performances from the start of the shield season and how they'd go against the 1s.

I've really enjoyed the first 2 rounds. Some cracking games of cricket with all results possible right up to end -> unless qld were playing. AB field is now worse than KR oval in terms of being batting friendly and their second game was at Adelaide oval. so many runs!

Had a lovely weekend. 2 big walks and some swimming (i might be a little sun touched). Had a good heart to heart with my youngest daughter and saw a positive response the next day. Saturday was a family movie night which was well received. Now for a spot of chinese food and a good nights sleep.

Day 4 update

SA lose their 2nd wicket as McSweeney departs for another low score.

Victoria haven't bowled particularly well and snagged both wickets with short deliveries.

SA 2/50 after 20 overs. Hunt 24* the main scorer in this dig.

1 impressive partnership for Vic brought them back into the match. As per the last few seasons they rely heavily on their bowlers to win them games and Handscomb to save them.

An interesting 2 sessions ahead will probably determine if either side can take full points or if a draw will eventuate.

Vic declare on 9/343 just short of SA 9d/350.

With over 60 overs left in the day and a full day tomorrow a full result is still possible but a draw should be favourite.

100s so far to Hunt, Lehmann and Handscomb

Handscomb out for 103 as Victoria chase quick runs before an obviously imminent declaration. Pope had him caught on the fence.

Boland joins Warren in the middle with Victoria now 8/334.

First over after the break has Pope dismissing O'Neill for 64.

Well that's lunch at Adelaide oval.

Victoria 6/322 (Handscomb 102* & O'Neill 62*) now only a little behind SA 9d/350.

It really looked like SA were going to dismantle Victoria in the first part of the session but Handscomb and O'Neill fought back brilliantly

50 up for O'Neill.

The game has really changed in the second half of this session.

He continues to be the best batsman for Vic and he's shown how good he is here today.
