Random but nice that once every few years, some orgs contact me to screen "The Witch's Mask", my RCA grad film from 2017. Guess there aren't THAT many films about witchy Indonesian lore out there ?? This is the second occurrence it'll be screened as a taster with a live action horror afterwards.

The students I get tend to be from all age groups, newcomers from all walk - a florist who wanted to learn digital for her business, a milliner, older teens who like anime, a mum with a book project.We're trying to bridge the digital gap together. The human remains in the center, or there's no point

The follow-up to that "AI is an insult to life" is "People have lost confidence". It's interesting teaching Digital Illustration to people and trying to equip them with technical knowledge, while also exploring their drawing voice. Learning a craft is empowering. You don't want to take that away.

to be an expert or become professional. It's not about judging the best drawing, it's about carving out a space of freedom for you, where you can communicate, explore, imagine. There is freedom in drawing - it's also a craft, but the craft is here so you can better express yourself and your world.

There is a way you see the world when you take the time to draw it, a deep sense of observation you don't get otherwise. There is an escapism, if your quotidian is too harsh, you CAN come up with a dream world. There is communication : this dream world, you can share it with others. You don't need

Rosso. And it's so dark to see this style stolen and reproduced in such an authoritarian setting. Ghibli is not just "vibes", it's deeply political. Machine spitting out images but it's a fallacy because imo, drawing is freedom and that is something being conned away.

The bit that chills me the most of the AI/Ghibli slop debacle, is that image posted by the US govt. Not just sucking out the substance and spitting it out like an empty shell, but using it to say the reverse of the authors' intentions. We remember the "Better a pig than a fascist" line from Porco

I been invited to a friend's place and one kid was doing AI on their tablet. Told them that it's bad and the father asked me why. Explained and also said real art have more soul.

He wanted to make a dinosaur playing basket-ball, I drew this for him. They loved it so much, the dad paid me in the end
