I'm glad they're at least headed in the right direction on starting pay... but the fact 25 years of experience is only worth $7,820 is literally insane.

What an absolute joke. At my next step, that is a 1.25% raise. Another pay cut.

2.3% year 1 and 3.3% year 2 is, once again, a spit in the face. It's a pay cut. I'm not surprised... but I seriously question how these people can look themselves in the mirror and be ok with that.

Any NC legislator considering this bill should be required to spend a week teaching a class of 40 second graders before casting their vote. πŸ€” #nced #ncpol

People don't miss manufacturing jobs. They miss the effects of having 30+ percent union density. And we can build worker power again, with good policies, for the jobs most working class people actually have today rather than hoping mumbo jumbo will make it 1955 again.

The "average salary" number is an inflated, nonsensical statistic. It does not account for drastic differences in local supplements/bonuses, and does not reflect the reality of tens of thousands of educators in NC... especially beginning teachers making nearly $20,000 less than that number.

πŸ“’The #ncga has the power to address NC’s most urgent needs β€” starting by pausing the elimination of the tax on corporate profits AND the cuts to the personal income tax rate that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy few. (1/6)

NC Students Deserve Better: The Governor’s Budget Neglects Leandro Funding

NC Students Deserve Better: The Governor’s Budget Neglects Leandro Funding

The Every Child NC coalition is deeply disappointed by Governor Stein’s Recommended Budget for the 2025-2027 biennium. It failed to meet the mark by not including full funding for Years 6 and 7 of the Leandro Comprehensive Remedial Plan (the Leandro Plan). While courts have stopped the transfer of overdue Leandro Plan funding for our students, they have not absolved the Legislative and Executive branches of their responsibility to implement the Leandro Plan.

As the Court of Appeals wrote in 2021: β€œOur issuance of this writ of prohibition does not impact the trial court's finding that (Leandro Plan) funds are necessary, and that portion of the judgment remains…the State must honor that judgment. But it is now up to the legislative and executive branches, in the discharge of their constitutional duties, to do so.”

Today, Governor Stein failed in that constitutional duty.

Stein’s proposal does address some of the areas of concern for North Carolina’s public education system, such as ending the handouts to the wealthy under the guise of school choice, increasing teacher pay, expanding free breakfast to all students, and hiring more nurses, counselors and social workers. However, 1.5 million students will continue to have their basic constitutional rights violated even if Governor Stein’s budget were to become law.

Since the Leandro Plan was introduced four years ago, we’ve moved backwards. Opportunity gaps have grown. Unregulated voucher schemes have increased budget pressures and worsened school segregation. Without bold leadership from state lawmakers, we’ll keep moving further away from the promise of a sound basic education for all students

We call on Governor Stein to work with us and fully commit to our public schools by adhering to the court orders that require him to work to implement the Leandro Plan. We also urge the governor to publicly support House Bill 420, Sound Basic Education for Every Child, that would implement years 6 and 7 of the Plan. It’s what the state constitution calls for and what our students deserve.

Oh, I completely agree. It's a, "look, I tried," campaign tactic from Wake Co. Reps. I was just surprised to see the Gov's come in under it. It seems like he's genuinely trying to find compromise, but I just don't see the NCGA buying it. They know they can do what they want and he can't stop it.

I was also surprised to see his proposal for teacher pay fell short of the House Republican proposal in HB192.

The reality is, the Senate proposal will be even worse, and the budget will likely be closer to it than anything else.

NC Gov. Josh Stein’s budget would freeze some tax cuts, add others and give raises N.C. Democratic Gov. Josh Stein made the first budget proposal of his term, asking lawmakers to freeze some tax cuts and add others.

NC Gov. Josh Stein’s budget would freeze some tax cuts, add others and give raises. He wants starting teacher salaries at $44,500 this year & $51,200 next year & avg. of 10.6% in raises for teachers over next 2 years. NC House GOP bill would raise teacher pay 22%. Does it have a chance of passing? The legislation would provide teachers with raises ranging from $9,000 to $12.280 a year. Here’s how much it would cost.

Happy to eat my words, but this has all the makings of a bill designed to fail, but that will allow swing seat Rs to go out on the campaign trail and pretend they support higher teacher pay

This would be detrimental to school staff who have to work gate duty at games. Cashless payment = not having to stay and count money = far less unpaid additional hours worked.

House Bill 192 (2025-2026 Session) - North Carolina General Assembly

HB192 filed today would raise NC teacher salaries, w/ $50K starting salary. Also restores master's degree pay for teachers. GOP-sponsored bill also calls for study of state funding teachers based on ADM instead of guaranteed positions. #nced #ncpol #ncga www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2...

@mintcitysoccershow.com @gusbust3r.bsky.social Hey y'all! Q for you - I understand why Ream is at LB, but it didn't seem like he had the legs for it against Seattle. He should be at CB imo, but then where does Privett go? Thoughts on a long-term solution, or just trust the process?

"During a year in which lawmakers are saying there may not be funding for raises, the State Health Plan’s Board of Trustees took the first step on Friday to set premiums for active members based on a salary scale. Increases in premiums are likely for all educators."

Given the limited depth in the back-line, and especially in our fullback positions, do you foresee us bringing up any players from Crown Legacy in the short-term? With Pat's success, I'm curious if they intend to lean into homegrown talent.

Listened to the episode yesterday and just saw this. Definitely concerned about the lack of depth pieces. Starting XI is solid, but it seems like an injury could really limit our success.
