Portugal to recognize a Palestinian state, government says Portugal will recognize a Palestinian state on Sunday, the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

Last year, when Spain and others recognized a non-existent “Palestinian state,” PM Montenegro said Portugal would not follow suit.

Only 1 year later, Portugal is joining others in a rush toward unilateral recognition. Empty symbolism over reality.

This isn’t a principled stand—it’s abandoning one.

We applaud the House Foreign Affairs Committee for roundly rejecting amendments that would have conditioned U.S. aid to Israel on its security policies.

The United States must support its ally without attempting to dictate Israel’s response to its prohibitive security dilemmas.
