That's a lovely read for a Monday morning.

John Wyndham was an outstanding writer, and it's eternally frustrating that his seems to be confined by so many to being sci-fi for young adults. I blame Chocky. His observation of humans was deft. The monsters in Day of the Triffids weren't just plants

 William Shakespeare:Julius Caesar (1599), Act I, Scene 2

ANTONY. I shall remember. When Cæsar says 'Do this', it is perform'd.

CAESAR. Set on, and leave no ceremony out.[Music.]

SOOTHSAYER. Cæsar!

CAESAR. Ha! Who calls?

CASCA. Bid every noise be still. Peace yet again. [Music ceases.]

CAESAR. Who is it in the press that calls on me? 15 I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music, Cry Cæsar! Speak. Cæsar is turn'd to hear.

SOOTHSAYER. Beware the ides of March.

CASSIUS. What man is that?

BRUTUS. A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.

CAESAR. Set him before me; let me see his face.

CASSIUS. Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Cæsar.

CAESAR. What say'st thou to me now? Speak once again.

SOOTH. Beware the ides of March.

CAESAR. He is a dreamer; let us leave him. Pass.

Happy No Caesars Day

Merriam-Webster page: Did you know?
In the 14th century, female appeared in English with such spellings as femel, femelle, and female. The word comes from the Latin femella, meaning “young woman, girl,” which in turn is based on femina, meaning “woman.” In English, the similarity in form and sound between the words female and male led people to use only the female spelling. This closeness also led to the belief that female comes from or is somehow related to male. However, apart from the influence of male on the modern spelling of female, there is no link between the origins of the two words.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/female

TIL "female* appeared in English as femel, femelle, and female, from Latin femella, meaning “young woman, girl” which in turn is based on femina, meaning “woman”

The similarity in form + sound between the words female + male led people to use only the female spelling + invent connection

Stumbled across this:
The root of "female" has nothing to do with "male". It derives from the Mediaeval Latin femella, a diminutive of femina, a woman. It was mistakenly transcribed in Middle English as "female", perhaps creating the impression that a woman is a version/variant/ subset of a man.

For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces The premier's policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from

How many of the children with special needs were damaged by Netanyahu in his long-standing war in Gaza?

He, Putin and Trump all monsters who manipulated democracy and took their nation to war to avoid the legal consequences of their hateful selfish acts

meme using a photo of the EverGiven cargo ship wedged into the Suez Canal in March 2021, disrupting trade - but it's named Trump. OK sure, the Strait of Hormuz is a different shipping area in that part of the world but it still made me laugh and tbh that's all that keeps me from screaming at everyone all the time - and as Gary just said, now the Houthis have mobilised in support of Iran and it could mean the Suez canal is effectively closed and the world is almost certainly about to get so much worse
