Review: 'The Aviator and the Showman' untangles Amelia Earhart's fateful marriage β€” and thrill-seeking ambition 'The Aviator and the Showman,' Laurie Gwen Shapiro's vibrant account of Amelia Earhart's union with a publicity-seeking publisher, unpacks the mystery surrounding her final flight.

I fell hard for @lauriestories.bsky.social's "The Aviator and the Showman" and you will, too: it's a glorious work of narrative nonfiction. Out next week from @vikingbooks.bsky.social. Here's my review for @latimes.com: www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

As Floods Hit, Key Roles Were Vacant at Weather Service Offices in Texas

The United States government is no longer able to protect us from real hazards, such as flash floods, because it’s shifting funds to fake hazards, such as a non-existent immigrant crime wave. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/05/u...

They took $45 million from FEMA to build the Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp that flooded on day 1.

In North Carolina, they denied us more FEMA funds. Now we know why.

Opinion | This Problem Is Easy to Solve

The US led the way in fighting malnutrition, and USAID provided a miracle peanut paste that brings kids back from the brink -- until now. Starvation is a problem that we can actually solve, but we're now retreating from the fight. Here's what I found in West Africa: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/18/o...

Remember during Covid they all thought it was unhealthy and you rebreathe diseases!

I was a medic at the Santa Ana protests in OC today.

I watched police fire tear gas, flash bangs, & rubber bullets into crowds of men, women, & children.

Other medics and I were clearly marked with red crosses, and the police were targeting us.

One of the most fucked up things I’ve ever seen.

During #WW1, artists like Anna Coleman Ladd created masks for disfigured soldiers. The metal was painted with hard enamel to resemble the recipient's skin tone. Ladd used real hair to create the eyelashes, eyebrows and moustaches. Had it not been for her efforts, many would have lived in isolation.
