I like trains in general. I like high-speed trains.
It's very hard to make the argument for either when using them is an overcomplicated nightmare and you're paying a premium price for a decidedly nit premium service
also fuck this "flexible pricing" horseshit. a train ticket should have a predictable (ideally, low) cost. and stop steering me to expensive (airline-style, for some ungodly reason) HSR over slower and far cheaper conventional trains.
when I am in Paris next week then I am going to seek out my railway friends who are also communists and we are going to drink wine about it
with the NS you tap in and tap out and it costs exactly the same each time. there is one peak fare and one off-peak fare.
with SNCF you can no longer book a train directly with SNCF(?) they instead direct you to external agencies and it's shit
dutch friends bitching about NS don't know what a total clusterfuck the trains are everywhere else in europe
"can you be more specific"

"lindsay you are in tourist place"

Just finished reading this, and yeah it's excellent. It brought me back to the joy I felt when toying around with a new computer as a kid.

What can the British Left learn from the Belgian Workers’ Party and the Democratic Socialists of America? In a new report published by the London Office of @rosaluxglobal.bsky.social, Joe Todd compares their structures, strategies and tensions between autonomy and control:

Of course it's bloody Meta. It means they don't have to clean up their mess by trying to off-load their compliance to someone else while simultaneously scraping more data.

As temperatures soar in Hong Kong, elderly people living alone in poorly ventilated homes are among those at greatest risk of worsening health conditions – and even death.

This is very good news. I've long been of the opinion that Universal's 17 day window if a movie under-performs effectively means people just don't get out to see them in the first place. And cinemas need the help. variety.com/2026/film/ne...
Documentarian Louis Theroux talked to @davidgilbert.bsky.social about his new Netflix manosphere doc and what a grift the whole thing is. I found this exchange—about why being a good person is bad for business—illuminating, if not surprising: www.wired.com/story/louis-...

I’ve been practicing Mandarin with random kind people on rednote and it’s been genuinely touching. We help give each other names in our native languages (it’s useful in a number of settings) and there’s just something really genuinely touching about helping someone with self-determination like that

It takes a lot to break through in the news cycle these days, but blowing up an elementary school and then boasting “no stupid rules of engagement” has done it for me.
Congratulations, Hegseth, you all-time POS. Hell will be too good for you.
Imagine if a modern-day Enid Blyton had written The Worst Witch and it had been hugely successful, but she used the money to become a full-time bigot rather than a national treasure.
What a horrible thought. Glad I don't live in that entirely hypothetical timeline.

Where do Japan and its nuclear energy ambitions stand 15 years after the devastating magnitude 9.0 earthquake of March 11, 2011, a destructive tsunami, and an accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant ground them to a halt?
