I definitely need to catch up with more of these! I loved K Pop, but many of these seemed exciting to me this year.

Wait, we're still doing this dance?

*sighs*

Public space infrastructure feels like it's always first on the chopping block.

Black Public Joy is on shelves in large and local bookstores across Canada & the U.S. Through practice stories across many cities & research, I assert that Black public joy, and public joy of all kinds is civic, cultural & spatial infrastructure. DM for book talk & public joy mapping engagements.

Nice. I do love the Hellboy movies. I know I'm in the minority, but I think Pan's Labyrinth is a little overrated. Wish I saw Pacific Rim in theaters! I think I watched it on a plane, which didn't do it justice.

What's your favorite GDT movie? As I said on the podcast, I'm not a huge fan, but I'm curious if the right movie could change my feelings.

Unfortunately, we decided to focus our efforts elsewhere (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads), since we were getting much less engagement here, and have limited time to put toward it. Hopefully, you're also on one of those platforms!

The more you know! 💫 I recently learned that trick or treating started in Canada as a way to deter the same type of behavior on Halloween itself.

This is great. Public transit is public space and public space should be more playful.

Occidental Ave at the stadiums is getting a makeover ahead of the World Cup. Plans for tactical urbanism have advanced as the first "People Streets and Public Spaces" project funded by the new transportation levy, but have mostly taken shape behind closed doors.

The piazza san Carlo in central Torino Pedestrianized street in central Torino Maria Teresa Square in central Torino The massive Central public market area in Torino

You can judge any city by the quality and vitality of its places for public life. Here in Torino Italy it’s the many piazzas, the pedestrian streets, & the public market. Many cities had to claim these places back from cars.

Don’t have those kinds of places in your city? Are you sure you’re a city?

A great recommendation for my Western-skeptic cohost @adamschoales.bsky.social. I’m also eager to get him to watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Every aspiring US mayor should take note: this is the kind of rhetoric that wins elections. You can adjust policy to your place, but the fundamentals are solid everywhere: slow streets, safe school roads, clear bus lanes, and vibrant places for human beings, not just cars.
