and it's really unfortunate that people think the result has to be good immediately. they miss out on the journey, that sense of accomplishment when you finish a project, when you take a step back and realize "i made this myself!"

If you are stuck using Google Search for any reason (like on a school computer in my case) you can disable AI overview by going to the settings of your browser, and adding a new search engine and putting "{google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14" (without quotes) in the URL field :3

canon character will often: -be trapped in some manner, often depicted as inside a screen -share familiarity with something generally regarded positively, often fondly. they invert this -have conflict with someone on the outside, often the one who created them in some way (creator, player, etc...this often also extends to others who are dealing with them now) -have emotional issues, often having outbursts and being manipulative -tend to choose nuclear options to achieve their goals -have a long running history leading to the point the audience meets them, often as the antagonist what i do to them: -stick them with a character (canon or not) that compliments but diverges in an important way (this highlights the flaws in the character, sometimes both characters!!) (sometimes the story itself does this, love that) -explore the emotional aspects of the character. what led to this point? what was the catalyst? (admittedly i often have to infer or headcanon this myself as canon wont directly show this) -is there a way to help them? could you try? how would that end? (often i explore multiple avenues! this never resolves cleanly. often these alternate scenarios end in tragedy, such as realizing too late or falling back into old habits.) (i also often end up with an AU that's basically "character is trapped in a new way with the other character in control of the situation and it's very funny to me. this somehow partially resolves the issue.") -would changing the circumstances change how they are? how their story ends? (this often for some reason starts as a joke AU but ends up becoming really sad) (like one only changed one character's outlook and it FLIPPED the dynamic to highlighting the other guy's flaws which ultimately lead to a bittersweet end...like here? something bad was gonna happen regardless!) -i always end up wanting to hug them for some reason. either because i feel they need it and/or it'd piss them off

this has occurred a bizarre number of times in the past 2 years alone

probably my favorite example that i've done was a kinitopet au where a chunk of it explores kinito's disconnect from others and dehumanization by others with a player that has experienced similar and sees him as a person, breaking the cycle he's fallen into and working together to fix what he's done

...ive also noticed a highly specific pattern in characters i get invested in and focus on but it's a bit difficult to write out cleanly and im not sure what about it causes this feedback loop in me

unfortunately im not often invested in my own stories so this mostly applies to character explorations and AUs from media i enjoy 💔 but in my old projects i'd often have characters bounce off one another like this. i dont remember the term but i often call them parallels. mirrors.

me whenever i examine characters by making ones that mirror one another interact...often deep down they have a lot on common but they're on different paths, sometimes different sides. sometimes this leads to resolution. often this leads to conflict. love this shit idk
