It's better to say 18th- century Ottoman Empire instead "Turkey". The Ottomans did not call the territory as such.

Chesma was a Russian warship used in the 19th century. Well, we can say "Battle of Chesma" instead Chesme. The first one is the Russian spelling.
Anyhow, it was a great victory of the Russian navy over the Ottoman which explains the naming of a later ship.

A picnic bench is located among the trees in a forest on the top of a mountain. Autumn leaves are on the bench and cover the entire forest soil. In the background, the trees are yellow/orange due to sunset.

Indeed, the Ottoman maritime history is a connected history.

After the defeat at the Battle of Chesme (Çeşme) in July 1770 by the Russian fleet it became necessary to modernize the Ottoman fleet. French specialists were the first who started to implement French technologies in shipbuilding.
