Visiting the Skeleton Coast is on my wish list, but I'll give the seal-eating lions a wide berth. Like the seals, I don't run very fast these days.

And just when the RAF was getting the Martin Baltimore which was faster than a Blenheim, carried more guns and had a bigger bomb load capacity.
And was primarily used for photo-reconnaisance.
So nice and chewy! And they can't run away like a gazelle!

Six inch shells really don't care where they're flying. Let's just hope the Marines care where they're pointing their artillery.

Pantera at Massawa, Italian East Afica, 1940.
In April 1941, as the Italian colony was falling to British troops, the three sisters were ordered to attack shipping near the Suez Canal. Leone struck an uncharted rock and was destroyed by the two surviving sisters who were subsequently scuttled on the Saudi Arabian coast on April 4, 1941.

In 1935 all three ships were stationed in Italian East Africa. Their only service in World War 2 was an unsuccessful attack on a British convoy in the Red Sea in October 1940 which was fended off by the British light cruiser Leander, a destoryer and three sloops.

The three Leone class destroyers (Leone, Pantera and Tigre) were originally designed for the Regia Marina as scout cruisers. Commissioned in 1924, they displaced about 2,200 tons and carried eight 4.7" guns mounted fore, aft, and amidships as well as six 17.7 inch torpedo tubes.
