Originally containing 12 bells, the Campanile now has a 61-bell grand carillon that serenades Berkeleyans daily.

Known as the Campanile, UC Berkeley's Sather Tower (named after Jane K. Sather) was designed by John Galen Howard as part of an architectural plan to give the university a unique look.

At 307 feet tall, it's the second-tallest freestanding clock and bell tower in the world.

“Berkeley helped me think about what a life of learning and ideas would look like. And I chose an academic career, not because I saw it when I got here, but because the campus helped me to see it while I was here,” said Chancellor Lyons.
