A stock image of a woman collapsed on the floor with her glasses fallen away from her hand. The caption reads: 12+thousand collapsed woman…Shutterstock

The number of times I wrote, saw, or thought the words “project budget” today was NOT something I was warned of in music school! 😮‍💨

(I am 12+thousand collapsed woman…)

Mt Hood sits far back in the center of the image, booking up from a dark skyline that starts with hills and breaks out into buildings and lights closer to camera. The majority of the image is dominated by a largely clear sky—a sharp orange near the horizon, fading into increasingly darker shades of blue. There are a few faint puffs of clouds, and one strong jetstreak in the upper right corner.

Happy holidays from Portland! Wishing everyone a few days of nourishing rest, tasty food, good company, and a quiet moment to cherish it all.

Three stacks of music lay on a desk, lit only with a harsh light to the right of the image. The three scores, from left to right, are Dirty Jeans for viola and piano, a work for lever harp, and a work for string orchestra and piano called “To Burst.”

After a few test runs this weekend to remember how to tape bind music correctly (!!), these pieces are off today to the American String Teachers Association for the national conference this February!

✏️ After these are sent, it’s back to the writing desk again at last! 🎶

Winnie the Pooh lays happily on his side against a pillow, cuddled up on a large couch.

I remember in high school & college it was such a tragedy when Friday night was slow / uneventful, but as an adult (especially in the arts!) I am filled with giddiness at an empty Friday evening!

Cover art for TO BURST (string orchestra + piano). Blue lines explode from the title against a yellow background. The bottom reads “KIMPOSITIONS” Cover art for DIRTY JEANS (viola + piano). Blue jeans are covered in mud and foot prints behind the text with more splatters across the title. The bottom reads “KIMPOSITIONS” Cover art for NEW MUSIC COOKBOOK (this installment is for solo harp). The title is set inside a pot within music steaming out of the lid. The bottom reads “KIMPOSITIONS”

I won’t be able to attend (the cost of conferences my GOODNESS), but I’m happy to share that 3 of my works—string orch, viola/pno, harp—will be on the American String Teachers Association’s New Music Readings at the national conference this spring in San Fransisco!

Off to edit, print, & ship! 😅

Image of a landscape. A large mountain peak sits towards the back of rolling hills in various shades of blue under a bright blue sky. The sky has clouds that deepen to grey the closer they are to camera. On the foreground is a line of tall, dark evergreens.

Cover art for a piece called CONVERSATIONS by Kimpositions. The words are broken up in colored blocks. First page of a score called Conversations for clarinet and string quartet. This first movement is called Chitter Chatter. First page of a second movement from a piece called Conversations for clarinet and string quartet. This second movement is called Whispers and Murmurs. First page of a third movement from a piece called Conversations for clarinet and string quartet. This third movement is called Bitching & Moaning

This premiere is coming up fast! So excited for this performance of a multi-movement work for clarinet + string quartet. I haven’t written for string quartet in soooo long, and it was a blast to play with all the different colors & learn from the scores of so many cool composers ❤️

Event graphic featuring headshots of tenor Benjamin Brecher and pianist Nathaniel LaNasa for the New York Festival of Song Program: The Many Worlds Interpretation on Sunday, November 16th at 3pm. The graphic also includes an image of cover art for the song "You, Us, Me" by Kimberly Osberg (Kimpositions). More information can be found on the NYFOS site.

Incredibly grateful to pianist & curator Nathaniel LaNasa for programming my work on the New York Festival of Song's NYFOS Next series!

While I can't be there in person, if any of my NYC friends are in town, I hope you can make it! The rest of the program sounds really lovely.

A list of composition projects sorted by month and written in messy short hand. They range from solos, duos, and trio, to art songs, string quartets, and quintets. Many on the list are ambiguous.

Taking time today to sort out what’s happening for the next year (?!) on the writing desk. That’s a lot of PB&J’s and emotional support beverages—best get started!

Cover art for a piece called “WRECKED.” The word wrecked is tilted and crunched up at the end, and lays on a bed of black scratches and cracks against a bright yellow background. Snippet of a score for bass clarinet called “Wrecked” (though there is a typo in the score). The music shows extreme registers, and a section of curves lines indicating quiet wailing.

Finishing up work this next week on a new bass clarinet solo for a buddy from grad school (so ignore the messy score)! We’ve been wanting to collab again forever, so I’m extra excited to be working on this!!

New score video is up today!

This 2022 piece is a love letter to 3 endangered species. While a bit unnerving at first glance, each has such unique and charming features—it was a joy to capture them in this short work for clarinet, horn & bassoon.

Happy October, friends! 🎃

Image of an iPad screen with an active Zoom rehearsal. The rehearsal includes a conductor leading a group of string musicians in a practice room with a wooden floor and tall ceilings that have curtains and sound panels.

Had a blast Zoom-ing in for a rehearsal of my string orchestra piece, “To Burst” with a group in MN. This piece was originally written for students who had lost their teacher. She was a really special lady, and I’m so happy to see this piece - and the light she inspired - out in the world again!

An event graphic for an exhibit opening at the Rabbit Hole children’s literature museum called “My Mother’s Father’s Dragon: A Hero’s Journey and the Art of Living.” The exhibit is in Kansas City, MO and runs October 11, 2025 to August 15, 2026.

I just found out my setting of "My Father's Dragon" will be featured on part the grand opening of this incredible exhibit at The Rabbit hOle, with members of the author’s family in attendance! To say I'm honored is an understatement!!

Just submitted to a call-for-scores for orchestra for the first time since I was in school (never had a piece that fit these calls before now). While it is HIGHLY unlikely anything will come of it, I'm still proud of myself for actually sending something in that I feel good about!

Our Little Secrets | Score Video | Kimberly R. Osberg YouTube video by Kimberly R. Osberg

I took some time this weekend to try making my first score video — this short piece for mixed winds is by far one of my most-programmed works, so it felt like the perfect fit for my first attempt!
