Hey, it's the holidays. If you ❤️ a lot of fact w your #histfic, the original article very much influenced BREATHE. I pulled down threads of true stories from letters, newspapers, diaries, etc., wove them together, & put my characters into them. Available at all the usual spots plus some libraries.

I asked to see their documentary after because *I* want to know what the Spanish Flu looked like in Chicago because [REDACTED for spoilers!] 😉

Yay for teens who love studying history! Also, we had a fun time talking about the parallels between the Spanish Flu and COVID.

Keepin' it real, I had to read my own article and watch a PBS documentary about the Spanish Flu last night to refresh my memory. Also, I only know what it looked like in Philly because that's where BREATHE is set.

Purple Death: The Great Flu of 1918 This article was written by Sara Francis Fujimura for the "Volume 8 No. 3 - 2003" issue of Perspectives in Health, the magazine of the Pan American Health Organization (published from 1996 to 2007).
