The weirdest thing that day was, definitely, walking into some random little building that housed an exhibit for the zoo's 20 year anniversary, and seeing my own work on display.
You can still find some of it around the park, though it getting sparse as their exhibits its species keep being updated.

Ahh, that's amazing! We do have European pine and beech martens here but I never saw one. Did see a stoat once, which was pretty exciting!

I know, the way they run is really halfway in between martens and bears too. They're so fun, I think we watched them for over 45 mins

GaiaZoo in Kerkrade. It's a lovely place, hadn't been in a few years.
It's a special place to me though, I have a lifetime year card because back when the place was only open for two years yet I did my first paid job for them and did many educational illustrations. And later a mascot costume as well

Here's a taxidermied paw too. The fur is coarse and short on the palm (no trace of pawpads) and a bit longer on the toes. The black (or dark brown) fur also has a lighter undercoat just like the tail.

Speaking of, here are some pics I took of a taxidermied Nepalese red panda tail (a little grim, but it died of natural causes). Look at how thin that tail actually is. It has a lighter colored fluffy undercoat that helps the fur to stay puffy. Might be useful reference for some, or just interesting!

Always taking photos of paws, back/top views and weird head angles too for ref (and then forgetting to ever export and label them- must be thousands at this point)

Bush dogs! A canine with a wide but sparse range in South America. They're kind of their own thing, not very closely related to other dogs. Closest would be the maned wolf, which is funny considering their looks..
They definitely deserve to be better known!

Love that you sculpted that detail. One of those things that shows that CG for Disney movies is not used because it's 'cheaper and faster than 2D'.

I was really happy with how this shot turned out. Too bad it was cut from the movie! I had to sculpt these neck rolls in basically frame by frame! Check it out! Zootopia2 is streaming now!

Btw what got me maybe the most was the final room, filled with mourning letters his brother received right after his death. He was loved and fellow artists admired his work.

A while ago I was at this incredible exhibition that included nearly all of the art he did during his final year. Hundreds of pictures. So many wonderful observations in the way he rendered certain details and all an explosion of color. He had the sensitivity to see beauty everywhere around him.
