As we approach a grim 10yr anniversary of BC's overdose crisis being declared a public health emergency, there is still no end in sight. Overdoses and deaths due to toxic drugs continue to persist. Time to implement the Four Pillars approach with real investment in prevention and treatment.
Proud to serve on the SFU and Vancity Community Fdn advisory helping create a Climate Resilience Roadmap for nonprofits.
After the heat dome we know preparedness saves lives. Nonprofits are often the first place people turn. Climate action is human rights work. Equity must be at the centre
Talkers in the Seawest lounge.
I think so.
Where are people supposed to go?
Supportive housing on Granville was never ideal, but it housed people. During COVID we moved fast to create options. Now those buildings are closing while the City bans new supportive housing and neighbourhoods don't want them.
If homes close, new ones must open.
Wow the is amazing! Thanks for sharing. Well done and gives me some hope these ideas can happen for our communities.
People are struggling. I run one of Vancouver’s oldest community food programs and see the lineups growing.
Food access is a real issue and motions like this reflect ideas many of us in community have been advocating for. I'll keep supporting solutions like this that come from community.
Shoutout Tanya Webking, Chloe Leslie, Ian Marcuse of the Vancouver Food Justice Coalition, Yarrow Society & others who worked or advised on this motion.
And to leaders like @amandajaneburrows.bsky.social who eloquently made the case for a publicly-owned grocery store in Vancouver earlier this year
It's a great motion! Great job and keeping the momentum going with ensuring food access for everyone in Vancouver.
Approving housing matters. But approvals alone don’t build homes. The real goal is housing people can actually afford and communities where everyone can thrive.

Thanks Greg! Lovely note and thanks for being an ally.
Sending you blessings on your journey.
This International Women’s Day hits different. I’ve just finished running for mayor of Vancouver, a city that has never had a woman mayor. Some people told me not to run because a woman couldn’t win. But if we keep telling women to wait, equity will never happen. We need to support women in politics
Everyone deserves to feel safe. But policing-first policies do not make our communities safer. Real safety means investing in housing, economic opportunities, mental health, treatment, and community services. I am deeply disappointed to see this, though not surprised.
Community not cops please.
Wonderful morning at the West Coast LEAF Equality Breakfast with so many incredible women. And a reminder of collective leadership pushing towards equality and justice in our communities.

I saw you from afar! Thanks for your ongoing support of this event ♥️
Found myself in another nomination contest.
Honoured to be nominated for a YWCA BC Women of Distinction Award in the Non-Profit Leader category. Grateful to be in the company of so many remarkable women working to strengthen our communities ♥️
Men, men, men, men, manly men!
♥️
This is embarrassing for the city. At the very least, leadership means telling the truth and taking responsibility. Vancouver deserves better.
What a great Coldest Night of the Year! Hundreds showed up for the DTES & raised funds that will make a real impact in people’s lives. Grateful for this community & for those who walked alongside us ♥️ @seanorr.bsky.social @lucymaloney.bsky.social @jennykwan.bsky.social

A police academy announcement in what was meant to be a community space, staged in front of Stan Douglas's work on abuse of power and policing in this community. The irony would be funny if it wasn't so harmful.
I’m Amanda Burrows, a community builder and renter living in Chinatown, Vancouver. I advocate for affordability, stronger communities and safety rooted in care.
I ran for mayor. I didn’t win and I’m not going anywhere.
Looking forward to connecting ♥️
