There are obviously always multiple causes! Technologies don't operate in a vacuum. There are institutional causes. Ideological causes. Individuals who matter. Random chance. Nobody should be arguing that it's ever only one thing.

It is pretty mainstream amongst historians to consider the means of (mass-)communication to be pretty damn important. That's not an anodyne point out of contrarianism, but just pretty basic history

Which ideologies get to the people is influenced by the technology of the time. The printing press was a dominant cause of the reformation for instance. To deny their importance is to miss a pretty vital piece of the puzzle.

The sources of information people have access too and the propaganda channels that are prominent are obviously also very relevant! The rise of fascism is certainly influenced by the first direct mass communication technology. Do you think it's a coincidence the Nazis subsidized radios so much?

Ik heb de luxe om te stemmen in Den Haag, de hoeveelheid toffe opties was echt intimiderend. Uiteindelijk gekozen voor informatiecentrum binnenhof, vond ik wel passend :)
