The Hmong turban reflected in a floor-length mirror. This distinctive headwear, particularly common among Hmong from Xieng Khuang Province, is a symbol of Hmong identity and cultural heritage, often passed down through generations. While traditionally hand-wrapped, modern adaptations include pre-made turban-style hats for convenience.

The turban is not just a piece of clothing, but a symbol of Hmong heritage, and is often worn on special occasions and ceremonies.

In the late 20th century, Hmong women began sewing the fabric into hat-like shapes for ease of wear, and modern variations incorporate different fabrics, colors, and decorations.

The turban is traditionally created by wrapping a long, dark-colored fabric (often indigo, purple, or black) around the head, with the siv ceeb (black and white striped fabric) placed across the forehead.

The hand-wrapped Hmong turban, a traditional headdress worn by Hmong women in Laos, is typically made by wrapping a long piece of dark purple or black fabric around the head, topped with a black and white striped fabric called a siv ceeb.
