Our team member, PhD candidate Murat Bakeev, spoke today at an online session of the Phil-Econ-Model-Lab (PEM-L). This workshop, funded by INEM, aims to promote collaboration among early-career scholars, with a particular focus on analyzing the role of value judgments in economic modeling.

After some time, I could finally visit the PPE program at George Mason U again; such a good discussion (& catching up with my fellow JHET editor & former classmate Erwin Dekker). Plus: another day at the Rockefeller Archives and the New York Public Library for preparing my talk and the workshop.

As these boxes were opened for the first time, a substantial workload fell on the shoulders of the exceptionally helpful and professional archivists Elly Crookes, Kelly Collins and Lydia Harris, whom Alberto warmly thanks for their support.

The archive preserves the full documentary record of the project: correspondence between the editors, the publisher, and contributors; successive versions of the headword lists; and the internal editorial notes and comments exchanged among the three editors as the draft essays evolved.

Thus he took up the challenge set by the book's editor, M. Milgate: “To anyone who might one day wish to look into those boxes, and chart the story of the New Palgrave from the written record, I would say just two things: from him, almost nothing will be hidden—but remember, there are laws of libel”

Alberto Bartoccini, our visiting PhD student from the University of Siena, spent a week at the Macmillan Archive in Basingstoke as part of his ongoing research on The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics, examining the editorial correspondence of the 1987 edition!
