This is a very hard letter to write. Ending a relationship that has lasted over thirty years - and survived many disagreements - is difficult to do. But there is always a breaking point, and this is mine.

It is a choice to leave the trans community to fight the bigotry of the culture wars on their own. These are not choices I am willing to be a part of.

It is a choice to cut ODA - spending on the poorest people in the world - rather than use frozen Russian assets to fund military support for Ukraine. It is a choice to stigmatise people on benefits and not those who avoid tax.

Every government has to make difficult policy decisions and faces competing demands for public expenditure. I accept that difficult choices have to be made, but at the end of the day they are choices, and there are always alternatives.

As a feminist who has fought not to be defined or limited by my biology, I find the abandonment of the trans community - and trans women in particular - appalling. This is not solidarity; it is scapegoating.

As a Disabled person who understands what it is to live in a society that is not built for you, I am hurt and upset that once again we are demonising people on benefits and by further limiting personal independence payments we are confining people to their homes.

While I welcome the scrapping of the Rwanda scheme, the continued demonisation and dehumanisation of refugees and asylum seekers in a misguided attempt at appealing to Reform voters, just allows racism to fester in our society.

I cannot reconcile myself to a Labour Party that cuts spending on Official Development Assistance - already a very small part of the UK budget - but which saves lives and keeps us all safe.

I struggle to see how the policies enacted by this Labour government live up to these values and can no longer be a member of the Labour Party.

I was taken on picket lines and protests because building a better society and standing up for other people mattered. Being a member of the Labour Party was a way of expressing solidarity and internationalism, of fighting for the rights of marginalised people.

I grew up in the Labour movement. My weekends were spent in childcare at political meetings where I made cards for political prisoners, at fundraisers for mining families struggling to survive the strike, and campaigning against apartheid.
