Following the adventures of BCC 006 Calypso and BCC 67 Mischief
Nope!! (Saying this after 4300 miles from Panama to marquesas)
03.04.2025 06:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Made it.
French Polynesia.
32 days, 3.5 hours at sea. Average speed 5.5 knots. 89 hours of engine run time.
Not bad for a 28β monohull!
A glowing ocean sunset peeks out from under a poled-out light air sail. The jib is flying to port. Calm seas with enough wind to sail. Itβs glorious.
Sailing into the sunset has ceased to be merely a dream.
Itβs our current reality. Only 3300 miles to go.

02.03.2025 17:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Code zero sail peeks out from behind the preventered-main in the Pacific Ocean, just past Isla Otoque. Diesel Jerry jugs visible on port side deck hint at the motoring that will be likely to cross the ITCZ but for now weβre sailing.
Wind filling in nicely. Have set a waypoint to clear Punta Mala.
Now if this counter-current would just disappear.
Day 1, passage Panama to Marquesas
Looking forward to it.

28.02.2025 22:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 02 flats of 30 eggs each, sandwiched between egg carton cardboard and tied together with pink yarn, sit on a fiddle-edged counter on a small sailboat. Prepping for a pacific voyage. These should last the duration of 4-6 weeks at sea, if we donβt eat them first.
Fresh goods purchased today (from small vendors at the Neri market in Panama City) included 2 flats of fresh, organic eggs.
60 eggs. $10.
Pressure cooker on stove, pints of chicken cooling on the counter. Operation βcan all the thingsβ is in full swing.
Canning sessions aboard, inspired by @sailingtotem.bsky.social
Thereβs room in the bilge for 30 of these pint jars. Stockpiling chicken, pork, and some ready-to-eat meals.
Smiling vendor stands proudly next to his stand of beautiful produce. A crate of tomatoes, one of onions and cabbage. Peppers and cucumbers peek out from behind. Market shopping is one of the joys of cruising life.
Fresh market scene from today. I only bought onions and cabbage: will be back Friday morning for the major bulk of what weβll take. This guy was super helpful finding hard onions with no soft spots.
Fresh produce that hasnβt been refrigerated will last longer than stuff that has.
I love these posts - no desire to do a trip like this (not at the moment anyway) but itβs fascinating to read about. Thanks!

21.02.2025 19:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A rock island, looking very much like a sphinx, guards the approach to one of the bays on Isla San Jose in the southern Perlas. Cool sights not very many people get to see.
Weird rock formations, Las Perlas edition.
We sailed out from Isla San Jose this morning after an uncomfortable night in the swell. (Still better than bugs, thank you very much.)
From one angle, this looks like a sphinx. From another, one of the Easter Island moai.
Itβs a real live version of Chopped.

Making this when we havenβt been near a store since January 26 means weβve been self sufficient, and that makes me happy.
Making granola this morning and pondering what βself sufficientβ means.
There are so many angles to this, from skills to gear to supplies.
Present me thanks past me.

Iβm guessing we crossed paths. We were there January-March

Thereβs a new anchorage rating system on Calypso this morning.
The βSβ system. Itβs for bugs. The more βSβ, the worse the spot.
Screen. Spray. Smoke. Slap. Scratch.
Last night was a solid 5-S. About to pick up the hook and hightail it out of here.
