I've never worked with kdenlive but audio syncing is pretty simple with command line tools like ffmpeg. If it's being re-encoded it shouldn't be an issue. I wonder if kdenlive's player is off, causing you to time things incorrectly.

I think this would be very simple to do with pure ASM using a hook and a lookup table. To add it as a feature to the enemy AI scripting engine, perhaps a little more involved.
