Asimov's novel "The Gods Themselves" addressed the problem of communication.

And the Star Trek TNG episode "Darmok" immediately comes to mind. It kind of made up for the original series which was one where the entire universe spoke English.

I liked "Arrival" a lot, and one of the things I liked best about is it was realistic about language being the first problem we have to deal with when we make contact with an alien species.
In many early science fiction movies and television programs, everyone in the universe speaks English.

A new friend I've made here is into books like I am.
She inspired this series of posts.

I've usually got two or three books going,
but sometimes I only focus on one of them.

Oh, and besides reading classics, I read a lot of mysteries and science fiction from the 1960s and 1970s.
One of the best things about retirement is having more time to read.

Since it is chronological, novels by Jane Austen,
The Bronte Sisters, and Charles Dickens, etc. were near
the beginning of my list, so I re-read them a few years ago.

Some time ago I made a list of classics I wanted to re-read.
(In chronological order. I do things that way.)
At the moment I'm almost finished with Rudyard Kipling's "Kim".
(Not one of my favorites.)
I've got "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" coming up soon.
I'm looking forward to re-reading that one.

The American President, U.S. federal judges, members of the U.S. Congress, and every member of the U.S. Armed Forces take an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution when they swear in.
It's patriotic to disobey the president if he disobeys the Constitution.

Elmer Wigby by Mark Sebring

My "La Vie Sans RΓͺves" poem is a shorter version
of John Lennon's "God".
Years ago I wrote one that's a much longer version
of McCartney's "Eleanor Rigby".

It is called "Elmer Wigby".
