Dancing With the Shoggoth On designing friction into AI writing workflows.

A tool that makes you feel comfortable no matter the results is entertainment. Or worse: a formless mass of iridescent protoplasm, quietly eating your writing voice.

I think we will see more and more emphasis on real world data validation to sort out all those plausible sounding claims everywhere

The Best of All Possible Worlds On Gambas, Gardening and Panglossian Optimism

This piece was inspired by reading Candide for Venkatesh Rao's Contraptions Bookclub. It helped me coping with my colleagues outer space longtermist techno-optimism. Find me cultivating my garden (I don’t really like actual gardening though 🧑‍🌾)

Start With a Hunch The art of asking better questions begins with finding words for what bothers you

I sometimes get frustrated when old writing uncovers that mental breakthroughs from the day before have been circulating in my notes for years without moving. But rushing Sensemaking fires back, it’s accumulating epistemic debt that will haunt me later.

What I Learned from the Silicone When I Fixed My Windows Principles of craftsmanship for post corporate careers

How to be a good craftsperson:
1. searching for challenging work that may fail
2. taking care of skills
3. prioritizing embodied knowledge as the only relevant (maybe the only possible) kind of knowledge
4. insist on doing the job well, never compromise on quality

How to avoid getting fooled by Silicon Valley metaphors? I think it helps to realize the hype around LLMs will be gone eventually. “The brain works like a large language model” is not a metaphor built to last, it will perish eventually, maybe sooner than later.

I Tried to Be a Data Center but Ended Up on the Floor What do we loose if we think of ourselves as scalable machines?

NotebookLM made me belief I could 10x myself by crunching through books like Keanu Reeves crunches through robot secret agents.

Drive vs. Agency Feeling agentic and having impact is not the same thing.

With too much galaxy brain thinking, you will end up with a pretty solution model for everything, but will always lack the capacity to execute upon it.

History Machines in the Margins What I learned from three hours at Singapore airport and a book about 12th century Java.

Between Dubai chocolate, high-end headphones from brands I never heard of, electrical trolleys and overtired toddlers in Batik I found a quiet corner to contemplate my continental identity.

Stoic Unsettling How to deal with a crumbling industry?

Large Language Agency Traps Using LLMs for life coaching feels great, but how much do we ACTUALLY benefit from it?

As soon as I put my phone away, stuff that used to make sense starts to break apart.

I might visualize my decaying corpse every morning to make peace with the fact that in the end we all will become excellent fertilizer.

But would it help?

Do you know any sources on the quality/reliability of LLM summarizers? Always wonder what gets lost in summarization..

Were there OG slopniks too? (carrying the water for capital by promoting that more cheap chintz is all we ever wanted, hoping to catch a cozy spot as chintz factory line manager for themselves)
