I worry it exposes us as a movement. A foreign power can undermine liberal public figures by focusing on the ways that they aren't perfect, because none of us are. Want to demotivate voters? Focus on a candidate's job from 15 years ago. Highlight the one value of 100 that isn't progressive.

My biggest worry is this sense that folks see him as evil or irredeemable. That he's radioactive now. That his quality as a human is now bad.

It seems like we have a culture of exiling people for mistakes. I've seen this behavior happen at both a political and interpersonal level a lot.

That's definitely your right!

I've made plenty of mistakes but always tried to be better. I have a high threshold for second chances. But no one owes that to anyone.

Publicly influencing people means your quality as a human is mixed into what you're selling. I don't fault folks for not buying.

This and the Tim Pool convo seem to have been missteps, but I can see how one with noble intentions might make these choices.

Was inspired to attempt to move away from Meta products, so I'm giving Bluesky a shot. I won't be shocked if this also turns out to be my last post, but I feel better trying to get away from Meta.
