i can't remember the last videogame anime that referenced waiting for godot, if that means anything.

the amount of fights can be counted on one hand ten episodes in, it's mostly conversations. none of this has been reflected in the PS2 "sequel" title yet. very intriguing thing.

this anime is slower than erosion and occasionally muddles philosophical musings with semantics - for entire episodes - but i can't say i've seen anything like it. tackling the MMO this conceptually for 2002 is wildly original considering the glut we saw over a decade later.

i'm this close to considering RE9 my first speedrunning venture solely because i see the level design in my sleep at this point sldkfj.

the dot hack anime's OP has a line that goes "how come i must know the direction of relieving?" which does makes sense but also sounds like someone trying to piss in the dark.

if we're tossing preboot games in, classic 4 is still the best to ever do it and i'd toss classic 2 somewhere in the top half.

RE9 loses points to RE7 for the weaker stalker AI implementation and less memorable enemies/locations. grace's opening section is a massive improvement level design-wise though, plus the leon mixups keep things fresh compared to RE8's slight stagnation.

having chewed on RE9 after gorging it, i'd probably rank the soft reboot (7 onwards) series as

1. RE2R
2. RE7
3. RE9
4. RE8
5. RE4R
6. RE3R

RE4R's placement is due to highly divisive fan nitpicks, with RE3R being the only game i mostly dislike.
