My X feed. "Autism is genetic" says the human geneticist. "Depression is an energetic state" says the mitochondrial physiologist. Can we please stop with this simplification of complex disorders? It's epistemic arrogance, and simply advocating for one's own field of work. And language matters.

A surprise find in Michigan shows the extent of ancient Native American agriculture Hundreds of acres in Michigan are covered in parallel rows of earth that are the remains of an ancient Native American agricultural system. The surprise find has archaeologists amazed.

Archaeologists: "We're amazed!"

Indigenous people: "Well, yeah."

Agreed. And... 1) it's always the same people leading and getting loads of money 2) we need to stop assuming only senior people can lead big teams.

It goes to show, when an Indigenous person chooses a discipline it may not always be immediately apparent how it can help community. Representation in all disciplines is needed.

A lot of folks are going to express strong support for Indigenous leaders in Alberta who are pushing back hard on talk of separation. This can't just be because it's politically useful. Let's also address the issues with treaties and talk seriously about #LandBack.

I really wish you'd stop using MY gov't and switch to OUR. Harper déjà vu. The thought of the eventual Carney gov't, like he did with the Harper gov't, doesn't sit well.

Obviously I support calls to "Stand With Science", but I can't help noting that scientists as a group almost never stand with anyone else. It's always "science can't be political" or "we must remain neutral". It's deafening silence from academics except when funding is at risk.

Men’s monopoly on global health leadership is at odds with the scientific evidence, writes @jocalynclark.bsky.social.

And with the current backlash against rights and equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts, it’s even more important to advocate for gender equality
