You know, Bill, sometimes I regret following creative folks who have brought me joy over the years when I learn their opinions, but that is NEVER the case with you. It means a lot.

Imagine if the Democratic Party actually helped Zohran instead of trying to kneecap him at every step. A better party is immediately possible if they stop shoving money into the anti-trans combination Racism Dial/Money Toilet and instead get behind candidates people actually want.

I haven’t seen nearly enough people talking about this.

The levels of greed and inhumane thinking on display is actually terrifying.

America really is dystopian as fuck.

Being part of such a well-attended, relentlessly supportive, magnificently diverse community event this weekend really helped steel my heart and give me hope.

Said goodbye to our sweet Gordy (Gordianus, The Gord, Gordon T. Pussycat) after 15 years. He was the most lovable gentleman and we miss him so much.

2. North by Northwest
3. Vertigo
4. The Lady Vanishes
5. The Birds

Hon mention: High Anxiety 😉

I nudged out Psycho for The Birds and I’m surprised that it didn’t make anyone else’s top 5 either — but it’s so hard to argue with some of these others!

Sinners is such a treat of a film. Clever, layered, deep, creepy, and also fun. I love a movie that feels like it was made by someone who loves movies, and Ryan Coogler must have had a ball spinning Get Out and O Brother Where Art Thou into this meditation on binaries and the spaces between them.

Too many people desperately want to believe art happens in a vacuum. I imagine that’s some of the appeal of the AI-generated stuff (but of course, big surprise in store for anyone who thinks they can, as a professor once said, “get back to the garden” there)

Weirdly just saw a thread about this elsewhere — I also stand by that the political beats and overall story arc are not at all the issue with the prequels. The writing and direction just sucks. You get an interesting story told poorly, which leads to a poor story.

If only the current administration would disappear into the outer atmosphere in a frustrating, confusing, and tonally questionable deus ex machina.

I play solo sets of my own songs just infrequently enough that every time, I’m shocked by how long ago I wrote the bulk of my catalog. “No way are you ten years old now!” I’m like a divorced dad with intermittent custody of my own music.

I normally tune them out but today I got an “emigrate to Canada” ad and I felt THAT one.

This would be the best news but a lot of Catholics would get on the forums to complain that the church isn’t as good as at the beginning of your reign and why is it so accepting of trans people now or some bullshit.

Did not have “Pam Beesly talking about my band and their song” on my list this week, but I’m blown away. So much appreciation to @jennafischer.bsky.social and Angela Kinsey for sharing “Second Drink” by Pocket Bandits on @officeladies.bsky.social !

I’m delighted by this response, but also now I’m thinking about The Plough and the Stars for the first time in years and I might need to lie down…

Sometimes, usually a few weeks to a few months after my wife starts pointing it out to me, I start to go “hmm, I wonder if I’m burned out?” Anyway just a random thought from my office chair after 15 minutes of blank staring.

That Eugene O’Neill, ugh, what disposable drivel, no timeless relevance to the human condition there. 🙄

I think perhaps it is not helpful to argue about an election that is a done deal, and rather to form alliances and organize to fight the fascism that we are facing now.

This is the thing. In a world with a livable universal basic income, minimal IP rights would be fine.
In the current world, copyright is necessary to protect creative people against Disney, Amazon, and the rest.
