But starting Sept 2026, ALL Android apps need Google-approved developer registration — even outside the Play Store.
This kills openness.

And the next cursor moment. Trying to implement a more complex business logic in uRyde and trapped in constant compile errors and wrong interpretations of my requirements... Hype over.
I know it's late but I just had my #cursor.ai revelation moment.
I was able to
- refactor an old project from plain javascript to typescript
- upgrade node js from version 16 to 20 for the project
- introduce a linter for ts
- upgrade other dependencies for the project
within a few hours. 🤯

Looks to me like Google wants to get an advantage to their competitors as it will be harder for them to stay up-to-date with their Android development. So for me it's an unfortunate development. But feel free to correct me here.
