It is a bizarre timeline and frankly still not one I can fully wrap my head around. Anyway I am excited to read this soon to be forthcoming book by Professor Mamdani about Gaza, the encampments, and Columbia university.
Everything more immediate put aside, it is still a shock to be able to say that Mahmood Mamdani, world renowned scholar of post colonialism, is also incidentally the father of the Mayor of New York City.
For those who don't recall, Obama dispatched Kerry in 2014 to ensure that the European powers would not support a UNSCR that would offer immediate recognition to the State of Palestine, and to also ward off a second UNSCR crafted by France that would have offered merely provisional recognition.
OK, *ongoing* thread of books to read on Palestine. Some recent, some not at all so recent.
Sociopath.
“Children of Men” (2006)
I’ve always loved how he steals the film with just one scene.
the president has no idea what he has set in motion. none.

Thousands protested yesterday at 70+ Citizens Bank branches in 13 states, from Virginia to Vermont.
Our message was clear: Stop financing notorious ICE prison companies CoreCivic and The GEO Group.

Trump Admin shocked by consequences of war.

Here are FIVE REASONS Trump has left us vulnerable to a terrorist attack by Iran.
www.defiance.news/p/five-reaso...
I oversaw counterterrorism at DHS for two years in the first Trump administration.
I’ve never seen DHS less prepared to defend the U.S. against a terrorist attack.
And Trump took us to war five days ago — with a country that is hellbent on retaliating.
“Republicans own this…They lashed themselves to the president with ball-and-chain oblivion. Now there’s no daylight left between them and the decisions producing $100 oil… a financial crisis… and a terror threat level that’s blinking red.”

My former GOP colleagues are still “standing by their man” — the month he starts a war, slaughters civilians, starts a global financial panic, puts Americans in the crosshairs of terrorist attacks, and is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.
Good luck in the midterms.
So is anyone from the FBI going to ask the president about the allegation that he raped a 13-year-old girl?
But apparently… it is real. Donald Trump reportedly has a footwear fetish. He’s testing the loyalty of his lieutenants by whether they’ll lace up in the same black shoes he wears. And yes, it’s creepy.
www.defiance.news/p/the-dictat...
This is such a classic dictator trope — forcing subordinates to copy your style — that I thought it couldn’t possibly be real. Think Mao Zedong and the “Mao Suit,” or Saddam Hussein and “The Mustache", or Joseph Stalin and the “Generalissimo” outfit.
NEWS — Trump coercing staff to wear the same black pair of shoes that he wears.
“Everybody’s afraid not to wear them,” a staffer said, as some reportedly ditch their own footwear to comply with Trump’s wishes.
We’re officially in the dumbest timeline.
Few Americans realize how close the president took us to the brink of nuclear war in his first term before aides talked him down. Today, there's no one prepared to stop him.
www.defiance.news/p/i-was-ther...
Remember: not only are top Trump officials moving onto military bases, but not long ago, the president ordered the Pentagon to “start testing our nuclear weapons” for the first time in 30+ years.
