As more war headlines fill our feeds-more missiles launched, more innocent lives lost-I keep returning to the words of Oregon's own Senator
Mark O. Hatfield:
"We stand by as children starve by the millions because we lack the will to develop a system to feed them. Yet we can create missiles which find the eye of a needle from thousands of miles away."
Decades later, his words still ring true. We have the resources. We have the technology. What's often missing is the collective resolve to prioritize humanitarian needs alongside security interests.
We must remain cautious about accepting war as inevitable-especially when so many around the world still face hunger and hardship. Peace is not only necessary; it is still within reach.

"We stand by as children starve by the millions because we lack the will to develop a system to feed them. Yet we can create missiles which find the eye of a needle from thousands of miles away."

SB 599A has passed the House & Senate floors with bipartisan support. This ensures that no one can be denied housing or live in fear of discrimination based on their immigration or citizenship status. It’s a step forward in protecting the dignity & rights of all Oregonians, regardless of background

The decision to block undocumented students from TRIO programs is counterproductive. As a former TRIO student, I know how life-changing these programs are. That’s why I’m fighting for HB 2997 to expand college access in Oregon. Education should open doors, not close them.

The dismantling of the Department of Education is an outright betrayal of our most vulnerable students—children with disabilities, those from lower-income families, and those who depend on school meals. It strips away opportunity, stability, and hope. Our kids deserve better.

I had a conversation today with TRIMET, our Portland Metro public transportation service provider regarding news about ICE being in Max Platforms.

Here is a summary of their latest policy statement:

To prevent the spread of misinformation, please accompany any such claims with photographic evidence, including location details, date, and time. Spreading unverified information can cause panic within our communities.

In light of President Trump’s recent authorization permitting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to conduct operations in previously protected areas such as schools, churches, & hospitals, it is crucial to ensure the accuracy of any reported ICE sightings.

This Portland suburb has the highest percentage of toddlers in the United States Heading to this Oregon town? Make sure to carry apple sauce pouches and crayons, in case you need to distract a roving pack of little kids.

It's incredibly fitting, then, that I have the honor of representing what is shaping up to be one of the youngest cities in the nation while serving as the youngest legislator in the House of Representatives.
