It reads more like a fob, I think, a big middle finger, a roughly cobbled excuse, and they don't care whether it's true or not. Arrogance in the other words: the house style.

These elites of Australian journalism do their industry no favours. Then again, most of our political class have forgotten what it is to be, not just accountable, but transparent and professional too.
