Anyway, it's all going better than expected, so I'm just going to take it really slow and let everyone adjust and take my cues from how she reacts to new things. So far, she doesn't seem to care about anything, which is weird, but I'll take it

I'm cautiously optimistic. If she was freaking the fuck out and seemed really unhappy, I'd be worried that she needed to go back outside. She's 6.5lbs, though. She's so small. Her boys are maybe 10lbs each now. They're not big cats to be outdoors safely, I think. Larry weighs more than all of them 😭

She got spayed yesterday, so she may still be a little goofy on meds, but not so much by this point. She's made no racket. Her sons have checked her out a few times, but don't seem to remember her really (normal). None of my OG cats seem concerned. Rudy barely knows he exists, so that makes sense.

Update on Mama! She seems...happy? Chill? I let her out of the carrier this morning and into the enclosure I used for the kittens (it's still a little dirty from them, but I wanted it to smell familiar), and she eventually climbed into her litter-box-turned-home and she's just cozy and calm.

In the last panel, they're looking into the back room, and the windows behind them are the front windows. We'll get oriented in this space more over time! I didn't get too in the weeds with the specific layout in this scene, but we'll see it more in the future

Her name is Mama, but her government name is Charlie, because she looks like Charlie Chaplin lol. Or Hitler, but I don't think she'd appreciate the association 😭

No worries, that makes me super happy! I'm glad it's remained consistent, because it's something I've strived for over the years :D. I started this comic just because I needed an outlet for my writing, and I knew I'd never get a decent chance with minimal interference if I didn't do my own project 😀

So long as she never has babies again, that'll eliminate the potential of future winter projects lol

Theoretically! I'm bringing her inside into a pop up enclosure I have set up in the guest room, and if she adjusts to that and me, then I'll let her into the guest room and then the house. Her two boys will hopefully remember her and help her integrate, fingers crossed

We made it to the vet this morning and I slept so little last night that my Fitbit gave up trying to record it, but she'll never have babies again! She's so, so small. Her and her boys added together are maybe the equivalent of two average cats in size. Tiny family.

I genuinely think the worst thing the internet did to reading was convince people that finishing books is a competitive sport. You don't need to read 52 books a year. You just need to read. Books you like. At your own pace. And think about them for longer than a TikTok video.

I've got a pop up enclosure that she'll go into when she gets back from her spay tomorrow, and then I'll go from there! We'll see how she adapts. She's not food motivated, which will make things harder tbh.

She didn't quite slow blink at me, but I could tell that she sort of wanted to lol. I've just drastically shifted our routine, unfortunately

I can't tell if she was just too stunned to react, but she was way more peaceful through it all in a way that makes me hopeful. She didn't lash out at us at all, either. She's definitely not "friendly", but she's pretty tame.

It was anxiety-inducing, but not too bad overall. My friends and I were able to block her off and get her where she wedged herself into using a leash made for this, and then held her down until we could situate the cat carrier. I got a tiny scratch that you can barely see. She hissed a little lol

Mama was caught! And now she's in baby jail until morning. I left some of her toys in there and her self-heating pad thing for comfort, and she's covered by her own blanket, so hopefully she's marinated in her own smells enough to not be too distressed for now.

Chapters 1 and 2 don't really have covers, but here's the first promo image I ever made. Still cool! You can see I had a much looser style at the time. A decade of drawing comics really tightens up your rendering, so it was a needful evolution. See y'all tomorrow with Chapter 14~!

ngl, I really do like my chapter names, though I admit that I named all of these chapters on a total vibe at the last minute, usually based on a song or poem that I felt fit the theme

I'm going to find out, for sure! She really settled into the garage and hasn't ever tried to dash out the door, even when my cousin left it open, so I think she's not a fan of the streets tbh
