How to alter the passage of time to feel fast or slow | Psyche Guides Knowing the psychology behind why moments drag or whizz by can give you a degree of control over your experience of time

Hey, I wrote a thing. I (and others) think that our sense of time and mental well-being are linked. Here are my thoughts on it. Thanks @psyche.co for the invite!

Huntington’s disease treated successfully for first time in gene therapy trial UCL trialled hours-long surgical procedure to treat disease which causes dementia and paralysis Huntington’s disease, a devastating degenerative illness that runs in families, has been treated successfully for the first time in a breakthrough gene therapy trial. Perception–action and interoceptive rhythms aren’t rivals. They’re complementary. Time isn’t just tracked from what we do, but also from what we are. The brain listens to the body. And in that dialogue, time is shaped.

Every heartbeat sends a pulse to the brain. So if a stimulus arrives during a beat, it lands on a wave already in motion. The ripple spreads differently. And that changes how time is felt.

Thanks for these papers. Why can't it depend on both: sensorimotor flow and interoceptive rhythms? There's no pacemaker. Time arises from how activity unfolds (@deanbuono.bsky.social idea): stimulus is like a pebble dropped into a pond, sending ripples through neural networks. But the pond is body.
