Reading used to be my escape from the noise—of people, places, the world.

Now I write the kind of stories I once needed—dark, gritty, and unforgiving.

If you’re a writer, don’t chase approval. Write what cuts you open first.

Novelty edits: written in skywriting or done on an etch-a-sketch. Arrive on the inside of a coffee cup, you have to add creamer to access…. 🤣🤣

I queried for the first time back in like 2006. Seeing there are agents with two-day average turn-around on query rejections is so wild to me. Best of luck!

Me, to me: heyyy, but rejections mean you're trying! Some people never get around to doing that! And it was a really nice rejection!

Also me: ...yeah okay fine you can have an iced coffee treat.

It has been politely pointed out by a crit buddy that my definition of paranormal as a genre versus paranormal romance might be antiquated and/or out of date. Oops.

Coming soon (early!): our online coffee shop where you can start to say hello to your fellow workshop attendees!

And yes, we serve iced coffee (and my favorite, iced lattes) to beat the heat.

Happy to see everyone here! ☀️⛱️

Hiker mauled by bear near Anchorage’s popular Basher Trail area, police say Rescue personnel asked people to avoid the Stuckagain Heights and Basher area while emergency responders are on the scene.

A good reminder to my fellow Anchoragioides or whatever we call ourselves.

Anywhere in Anchorage, including Downtown, is bear country.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, when there was no power, internet, cell service, or running water for weeks.. Blue Ridge Public Radio was our region's only source for critical, life-saving information. Everyone would gather around crank/battery powered radios 2x daily for updates. #npr

When I see people talking shit about events like this, the main impression I get is that some people cannot stand people doing things different than the thing they are doing.

Everyone was okay - the firefighters arrived quickly. But we slept in the camp gym that night, because the arsonists were still at large.

By the end of the week it was just a memory, in part because we had solid emergency procedures and practiced them, and in part simply because we were lucky.

We had a fire at camp, once. It started at the one next door, but spread. You could hear it crackle in the woods and feel it from the tent sites. I was young, and I remember the fear - not for myself, but the kids I was responsible for. We were supposed to keep them safe and I wasn't sure we could.

I'm not a fan of the current em dash discourse.

if you genuinely think that real writers (non AI and fully human) don't use em-dashes like fucking confetti, I can only assume that a) you do not read much, and b) you know no writers.

Copy-editors hate how in love writers are with em-dashes. (& idc)
