Well The CLC will be in this mill’s library this weekend! (But OH has ordered it and will get to read first!)

I retired 28 Jan after a career in reliability engineering - so assessing and predicting life of systems and equipment should be behind me! (More time for SIHS and SVBWG stuff now!)

Expected life of a dvd player (average use) was 5-10 years. So, it didn’t fail, but yes, end of life.

There is a flood risk there, but was previously a country furniture making workshop before a fire gutted it.

I was at the automill garage next door looking over the wall - garage said the person or couple that bought it were largely doing it themselves (caravan in yard). But not 100% sure.

Was it the pickled silver darlings that first drew you to Sverige? 🐟

Thanks @britbob1.bsky.social - my late uncle (and others who had done national service, he said) was a given a rifle to help surround the aircraft. I never see any colour picture from this incident. Were there any?

Here’s another 'Coolman' Antarctic carpenter. My uncle, Allan Green (centre), a BAS carpenter during rebuilds at Signy mid-1960s. He also worked on Deception Island, and was in the Falklands with BAS when the hijacked Aerolíneas Argentinas aircraft landed during Operation Condor in 1966 @bas.ac.uk

Son was 18 last summer, but he’s now studying in Edinburgh - so back to Pittodrie on my own - but will manage to get a couple of pints before/after now! 🍺

Went to Prague with son in December actually. Got lots to do here - working on my old mill here (wheel and machinery refurb). We have horses/stables and all that goes with that to look after - so busy. A few geeky projects thrown in too.

I wager it’s high stakes though, I know ‘gatekeepers’ at the Sir Duncan Rice Special Collections Library are not to be trifled with.

Idea for a novel? Starting with: It was a very cold day when the bike finally decided it had had enough…

Thank you for the kind words! Here's the link to the wee YouTube video I did about Hugh Mercer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_UY...

Hugh Mercer — Jacobite and physician — was born just a few miles from here at Pitsligo in Aberdeenshire. This plaque commemorating him is at Marischal College (University of Aberdeen), literally a stone’s throw from my office window. The real expert around here is @maggiecraig.bsky.social

Calling heritage and local history societies!

What platforms do you use to share your digital collections & photo archives online? Our society's old system is now defunct, so we’re looking for a good replacement.

Any recommendations appreciated!
