The post supervisor for American Beauty spoke to my editing class when I was in school. If I remember correctly, the main thing they changed in post was to make it so Lester DIDN'T sleep with the girl. The movie didn't work until they made him realize the reality of the situation and NOT do it.

I was at school that night recording audio for a film school project in the Zemeckis Center at USC. My friend, and voice actor, told me they just called Florida for Gore and I relaxed. A lot of us have chased big dreams for a long time, and we all know a little help at the right moment makes or breaks you.

I saw it in a theater last week with a friend (her first time on the big screen) and it's still just as amazing as it was when I was a kid. Best part when I was a kid was we saw it totally cold. Hadn't even seen a trailer. Hard to imagine that experience today.
