Price is Right was big on sick days in the early 80s. As was Let's Make a Deal (which, ironically, I worked on for two seasons later in life). Then there was Dick Van Dyke Show, Archie Bunker, Andy Griffith, and, if you were lucky and it was the right time of year, The Monkees.

I got trapped in one of their deals. Been learning Resolve, which I really like so far, to get away from Adobe.

That's crazy. It was twenty years ago, so I don't have the clearest recollection. I'm sure that production had an interesting history. I think he brought it up as an example of a movie that didn't work for a long time in the edit and then did. Which in my post career I've seen a lot.

The post supervisor for American Beauty spoke to my editing class when I was in school. If I remember correctly, the main thing they changed in post was to make it so Lester DIDN'T sleep with the girl. The movie didn't work until they made him realize the reality of the situation and NOT do it.

I've read a lot your writing. If you write a stinker, it would be your first. You're going to do great.

When I see guys like Buttigieg I think of the Lincoln book TEAM OF RIVALS. The lesson of that book isn't that you should invite your opponents into your cabinet. It's that some people NEVER get over the desire to be President and that hopeless ambition morally corrupts them.

I was at school that night recording audio for a film school project in the Zemeckis Center at USC. My friend, and voice actor, told me they just called Florida for Gore and I relaxed. By the time I got home it had all unraveled. I stayed up all night watching returns come in. What a bitter memory.

Something else awesome they had were these items from AMERICAN WEREWOLD IN LONDON. The mechanical animatronic for David's transformation was named the Change-O-Head and I can't help but think how much we have lost in the era of CGI.

The logic of algorithms tends to repeat what β€œworks,” but art opens up what is possible. Not everything has to be immediate or predictable. Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks and difference when evocative. Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is above all an invocation. When cinema is authentic, it does not merely console, but challenges. It articulates the questions that dwell within us, and sometimes, even provokes tears that we did not know we needed to express.

Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

I'm around 10 pages from finishing a new draft of a contained thriller. That's good. I've introduced a new moral obstacle for my protagonist. That's good. Which I do not know how to resolve. That's bad.

At Netflix today to teach a class on Avid Media Composer to their documentarian fellowship program. I did my best to confuse them the least I could.

If I were running for President, I'd run on a platform of "movies will begin after three previews and no commercials," and I would win in a 50 state landslide.

A lot of us have chased big dreams for a long time, and we all know a little help at the right moment makes or breaks you.

I saw it in a theater last week with a friend (her first time on the big screen) and it's still just as amazing as it was when I was a kid. Best part when I was a kid was we saw it totally cold. Hadn't even seen a trailer. Hard to imagine that experience today.

Saw BACK TO THE FUTURE last week for the anniversary screening with a friend who was seeing it in a theater for the first time. Still just as amazing as when I first saw it as a kid.

Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.

What they're saying is that lying is the future of documentaries. These people are not filmmakers. They're grifters.

The thought for sure crossed my mind while reading my feedback. It's crummy to live in a time when it's something we all have to ask ourselves.
