Now that I am retired, it is now such a joy to return to regular volunteering with a local group, now focussing on finds processing, as I have always at heart, considered myself as an archaeologist.

I tried to keep my hand in, volunteer digging during my children's school holidays, but my professional life took me into public service in health and education.

Thank you. As a woman who graduated in 1977, I feel "seen". At that time, field job opportunities open to me were mostly with a subsistence allowance and a tent for accommodation, which was not an option for me at the time.

We love him! He's going to celebrate our new pond, and live next to our weird world of water (the aquarium). We so enjoyed our visit to your studio.

One day we'll find something that we were actually looking for, having to keep this look of confused incredulity on my face for 40 years is getting very tiring. As is constantly having to live with broken toes (it's the only reason we wear steel toecaps...)

A Jackdaw perches on a wire, feathers wildly fluffed in all directions, staring straight ahead with wide, piercing eyes. Its intense expression and dishevelled appearance give off strong chaotic energy, completely at odds with any suggestion of calm or composure.

Monday. I'm calm. I'm composed.

I'm absolutely fine.

The Melsonby hoard, or about 1-2% of it, is currently on display at the entrance of the Yorkshire Museum for fundraising to purchase the find. Stunning late Iron Age metalwork deposit, dominated by horse & vehicle fittings. Visited on Tuesday, & blown away by it!

I love standing stones. Stories about them. How they were used. How they were created.
And return to them again and again in my work.

For the authors of the words used, please see the Alt text.

I really hope you like them.
