โฆhe is a talented long-distance runner (coastal trail running, not road running) and is incredibly driven and motivated by his personal goals and challenges. We appreciate guidelines, but not everyone fits in the box. We work with him to plan his endurance events based on his ability.

Thanks for your concern. This was not an organised event. My son has been running since he was six years old & has been setting himself endurance challenges since the age of 8. He has to date completed 55km in 5 days, a half marathon, & recently a triathlon, having raised upwards of ยฃ8k for charity

A superb Scilly stormie session last night with 35 European storm-petrels ringed & released in just under two hours, a good total considering a 77% waxing moon.
Our small team of helpers did a brilliant job, several of them enjoying their first ever stormie experience ๐

Three Wilsonโs storm-petrel. Near two individuals both fresh juvs., distant bird a moulting adult.
Coryโs shearwater
Sooty shearwater
Manx shearwater
More excellent pelagic birding off Scilly yesterday with 6 Wilsonโs storm-petrels, 6 Coryโs, 1 great & 1 sooty shearwater, amongst dozens of local Euro stormies & Manxies.
Getting โthe big threeโ, & multiple Wilsonโs in one photo frame, in June is absurd!

Black-capped petrel, 5km west of Sรฃo Filipe
Red-billed tropicbird, Ilhรฉu de Cima
White-faced storm-petrel, 12km SE of Brava
Cape Verde Petrel, 8km SSW of Sรฃo Filipe
An exceptional first 3 (of 7) days pelagic seabirding off Fogo, Cape Verde with 18+ hours spent at sea and c.150km traveled so far.
Many highlights, but this mornings black-capped petrels steal the headlinesโฆ undoubtedly the best ever views of the species in the Western Palearctic!

โฆin all, and from over 18 months of research and planning prior to the first trip last year, I believe the current set-up is the most affordable, efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible way of running British trips to the shelf edge. Nonetheless, Iโll always consider other options ๐

Availability is an issue, but there are survey vessels and small expedition cruises that would be suitable. However given some of the pricing Iโve come across, cost per person would be considerably more than weโre currently payingโฆ
11.03.2025 20:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
โฆhowever, there is some scope for something larger scale, i.e. a small cruise, but that comes with its own challenges. Iโve looked in to it, but thereโs no immediate plans to run such a trip.

Duration and cost wonโt change much with the current set up and scale. Our sailing yacht is currently the cheapest charter option possible to take ten of us out there. The current duration gives us five days โon siteโ, plus travel time. A narrow window there is just too risky re weatherโฆ

This pied crow initially arrived on St. Maryโs for a day in late December before returning in February, settling in Old Town where it has been residing now for the past fortnight.
Some interesting decisions to be made on the recent โinfluxโ of the species in to Europe!
