Wow. It’s quite a read. Despite not being much of an article!

This was honestly one of the best holidays we’ve ever had as a family - and I’m so pleased to see it go live on The Guardian today.

Travel writers! Are there any (UK) train companies out there happily providing comp or discounted travel for articles (without having to promise a good amount of text about the train and/or a photo)? It feels like pulling teeth most of the time.

Not on this occasion, but thanks for checking!

Things I never expected to hear (courtesy of my 11 year old): “I don’t know what the cutest medieval colours are.”

Hmm, tricky one! I’d probably be happy to consider it though.

Bradt guide to Scotland's North Highlands plus Inverness by Emma Gibbs.

This brilliant book is out today. Researched and written by my friend @emmgibbs.bsky.social.

This part of Scotland is amazingly beautiful and there are so many interesting places to explore. I'm already thinking about where we should visit on our next trip north.

My latest book baby is out today! And is without a doubt the piece of work I’m most proud of. You can buy it here: www.bradtguides.com/product/scot... and in all the usual places.

I loved this trip so much - and very much recommend a winter (or any time of year) campervan adventure with @bigskycampers.co.uk .

Love this, Caroline! Makes me want to do another trip with the kids, and try it on my own, too.

I’m sorted for France at the moment, but definitely will be in future!

The eleven year old has started saying “psych” so I had no choice but to play “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble”. Needless to say, she is spectacularly unimpressed.

Thanks! I’m also implementing a new thing at JRNY where at least 50% of our European articles must be from flight-free trips - it’s a start at least. 🤞

Of course! The only way to travel.

No, but for UK pieces I'd rather commission domestic writers as I'm conscious of trying to keep our carbon footprint down.

Really liked this – a lot of what she said resonated with my own experiences/thoughts around giving up flying. (And I didn't realise you were a fellow flight-free travel writer, either!)
